Speaking of the deer of the year. Here's a few shots of a buck my son found last summer. The kid is doomed. At the age of 8 he already has a pretty good eye!

IMO, this has to be one of the neatest animals I've seen alive in the wild. Hopefull he'll make a showing this summer for follow up shots...

Bucks will grow those type antlers and never shed their velvet if they lose or damage their testicles. It reduces or eliminates the hormones that cause the breeding urges so they don't go through the fall rituals.

Yep Dan, you're right. I've got a couple of close up's w/ the correct angles proving the fact! I was watching him pretty regularly up until November. He never did shed his velvet. Unfortunately I don't think he'll shed his antlers either!

Great looking buck. I really don't think it's a cactus buck though. I would bet he sheds those antlers each year.
