VA late season ML buck

Starting to really love late season in VA. The last few years bucks have really been on they're feet in December. Grunted this guy in just like it was the first week of November.

Nice looking buck man... My buddy was after a bruiser this year. The neighboring land owner shot him Saturday 158" ten point. My buddy is in need of some quack sessions now. He saw it twice in rifle.

I really like the dark horns.

I have often wondered if we have moved the timing of the rut a bit since we have a rifle season during the traditional rut. I see as much sign late season as I do the traditional peak breading times. It makes me wonder if does and bucks that cycle early or later have a better chance of passing on their genes.

I think a lot of that has to do with the lack of deer we have in western VA. With so few does, the bucks can't quite quench their thrust during the traditional rut times.

I’ve yet to fill a tag so I’m hoping for something like this up here!

Seems to me that this dynamic here in the Mitten has been attributed to a very high doe to buck ratio which means that there are ladies who go untended and then repeat their cycle. Don’t know the population dynamics there but something to consider.
