Ever try silk as a base layer?
Wonderful stuff.

I have long johns and long sleeve shirt in 94% silk
and just ordered Knee high socks.
A lot of times the silk is plenty to around -10*
Then I have polar fleece I put over that under normal pants and shirt.
I have been looking for socks long enough for ever found them.

" Wintersilks.com"

On sale too $8 free freight on $50.
Hope to let you know in a week or so If the work as planned.

I tried it many years ago and didn't like it near as well as I like merino wool. Hope it works for you.

I like merino wool too and Smartwool, have both.
I think silk wicks water better is all.
