Unit 116-8 cow tag

We are coming up for an Antelope hunt and was wondering about elk pops. in the black hill national forest to shoot a cow. I am a newby and was looking for a place that i may be able to try to learn a little about elk hunting while I am up there. Only wanting to get one tag as this is just a learning experience and pretty sure success rate is not all that great of odds. Just wondering if it is do-able and a good choice to pick for a new western hunter.

What I have found is that most of the elk live on private land and is about impossible to get on to hunt.There are a few in the forest and maybe an archery hunter may have a chance at one. After checking this unit out it was not for me.
