Trying new rifles this season

I've had an xbolt 300 WSM stainless stalker for a long time that has been good to me. Haven't looked at brownings in a long time though. Dont seem to be as prevalent in scheels and the like anymore?

Not a complete necessity, other than Mrs. Fin put her foot down in 2018 and said we will not sink any more of our personal money into this operation. What she tolerated until that point was so far beyond what was reasonable, I sometimes wonder how it is that I'm still married.

Without that revenue, I either fund this operation out of my own pocket like I did for the first ten years (no longer an option), or we have fewer resources to produce the money-draining conservation and advocacy content (the content that gets me most enthused), or we have less revenue to keep money-losing platforms going, with Hunt Talk being the most unprofitable of our platforms. If I want to have platforms that can produce the advocacy content that gets me excited to drive to work each morning and creates communities of people who will engage in our important issues, revenue is a necessity to fund that.

Hope that makes sense.

Knowing you would never endorse anything that sucks, I'm rooting for whichever endorsement partner best helps the mission of HT, and by extension most benefits public lands and PL hunting. In other words, I hope you fall out of a life raft and land in a yacht on this deal.

@Mallardsx2 is laser in your laser beam a factor of the Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System?

Beats me man. I set it to where it said the "Sweet spot" is and I never moved it.

It does make it loud as hell however it does a great job of reducing recoil.

That rifle stacks bullets at 100 yards so I never touched it.

You guys can pry my savages out of my cold dead hands. I love those things.

Seriously though savage was my gateway drug to rifle tinkering in my teenage years. Back when they were staggered feed there was tons of stock options. You could change bolt heads out and magazines and had the barrel nut you could use to headspace prefits. “Built”my first rifle off a savage at 13 years old. Turned a 30-06 into a 338-06 with a prefit barrel off midway.

A friend of mine jumped out of the drivers seat with his Browning 7 mag thingamabob tuning brake and shot a hog. He couldnt hear for the rest of the day and my ears rang with the windows rolled up and the doors shut.

I love you these threads turn into, "You should pick XX, it's my favorite and the best there is."

My choice would be CCM built customs in Fallon, NV. But the wait is too long now. IFKYK.

I blame a significant amount of my hearing loss on the popularity of the BOSS in the early 2000s; every other person I guided had a .300 Win Mag A-bolt and needed 5+ shots to kill an elk...

I’ve never shot an elk with a gun but I’ll bring extra bullets with me just in case….
