I know I recently saw a thread with a bunch of recommendations for tripods but I can't find it now. if someone could find the link that would great. if not what tripods are you using

Go into the Optics area and search for the word tripod, I'm sure you will find it. :O In case you don't, Manfrotto...
 
Take a look at sirui t-025x for a lightweight tripod (binoculars and small spotter); and promaster has a 5-piece carbon that is phenomenal if you have an 80mm spotter.

Can't beat the Outdoorsman heads for any tripod, though I use the stock one on the sirui when I'm just running binoculars without the spotter since it's so lightweight.
 
I have an Outdoorsman's large tripod and their pistol grip head. I love the heck out of that thing. I've used it in just about every situation I can think of, family photos, hunting, at the range, etc.
