Trapping Thread 2025/2026

Idk why I said sand. Waxed dirt is what I meant.
Getting started this late in the season peat moss is your best option. You still have to spead it out and let it dry first.

If you have cement mixer and a weed burner you can knock out some waxed dirt now.

Hobby lobby has a sale every 6 weeks or so. They used to have 10lb blocks of plain wax.

Peat moss holds so much water and just freezes up for me here in KY. Wax dirt is a pain in the butt to make. How are you all using peat moss in a place with moisture and a freeze thaw cycle?

I’ve used peat moss and put wax paper below the trap to keep the ground moisture from coming up into it. It works just “ok.” I’d like to try waxed dirt but never get around to making it in the summer.

It'll be next year more than likely. I just need to remember to get the dirt ready in the summer. I work in the dirt everyday. You'd think I'd remember.

I had a 100 gal black water trough from tractor supply. Put the dirt in and scattered chunks of wax on it. Then covered it with a big sheet of plexiglass. Then stirred it good with a hoe after work. Worked best in july. If it clumps thats too much wax. Done right it will look kinda dry.

I caught this coyote with it after about month of of the set sitting there with 2 blizzards, and an ice storm thaw and melt cycles.

5 raccoons today but one got loose when we were trying to dispatch it. First time for that.

Predator sets haven’t connected yet. We are trying the coal dust this year to see how it works

I never got the wax dirt made and for what it is worth my son has 1 coyote and 1 fox on hay sets last year and I’ve never caught a predator
