Skiers seemed to be dropping like flies on Big Mtn. A German foreign exchange student was taken off life support last week, Now a couple more skiers died this weekend. Plus 3 avalanches 3 basins in a row in one day buried about 6 guys, killing one. Some friends of ours dug out 2 of them themselves.

Crazy!!!!

Yeah, then in Wyoming the other day a snowboarder hit a mom and daughter, the little girl and the snowboarder both died.... Un real.....

I read that. My first thought was, why in the world did that mom have her 5 year old daughter on a Black Diamond run, and why were they stopped? Complete tragedy.

There could have been a cat track crossing the run, but who knows? I have a couple friends who's kids can ski black diamonds easily at 5-6 yrs old... mine didn't till they were 8-9... regardless... that kid shouldn't have run into them... you always ski to miss folks below you.....

5 - 6 seems kind of young to be skiing at that level for me but what do I know. We have several ski resorts in WV and I have only been once and I spent the majority of my time on the bunny slope and chugging beers in the lodge :D

My 7 yr old daughter is small for her age and there is no way i would pack her 100 yards in a pack...................ive seen some younger 2-3 yr olds that way but none that old.

LMAO... I see what you are saying, but I was talking about "Packs of kids" skiing down the hill like little gangs of hellions!! LMAO! That is a funny mental image!!!!

My Brother In-Law rode with the guy who died Bruce. Really nice guy, 3 got trapped in the avalanche, and they were in the trees. Just bad conditions. My sister's family was up in a different area with her 6 year old snowmobiling. They got back to hear the news. A bunch of guys went up yesterday including my bro. in-law and picked up the pieces. Very tragic. Avalanches are hitting in places that usually don't get them. I know the area very well and so did the guys. If your out and about be very careful, right now you'll never know where one will strike.

One of the greatest traditional bowhunters ever died in a skiing accident in MT. Evidently its not a real safe sport. I haven't done it for years and don't miss it a bit.

It's the same with snowmobiling. You have to have the avy gear and then ride or ski defensively. What happened to these good people in that Avy is really tragic regardless of how it happened, but just being prepared and thinking safely will go a long way.
