Time to retire the Buck 110

I’m pretty sure Buck will do refinishing on old knives, including adding a whole new blade on folders if you want. I’d do that and keep the cool old knife if it were me.
I broke the blade on my Buck 110 prying things I shouldn't be and I sent it in and they replaced it for a small fee. If I was the OP I'd have them replace the blade if it's getting too worn down.

Most people don't know how to sharpen a knife. If you don't, you can dramatically decrease how long your knife stays sharp. Here's something to get you started. He's actually really good.

I went havalon then got nervous about how sharp they actually are and how tough it is to change the blades in the field, went to a benchmade for a while, but eventually went back to the havalon. They're just so freaking sharp and I don't have to mess with sharpening, and it weighs nothing. You can get a lifetime supply of blades on Amazon for a couple of bucks.
My only complaint on the havalon is that changing the blade in the field especially with bloody cold hands gets sketchy. Added a small Gerber multi tool to the kill kit and solved that problem.

I do agree that knife sharpening is a lost art but what isnt these days? I was fortunate enough to have worked in a kitchen for several years and was taught how to use a wet stone. I still use it on all my kitchen knives. That being said i have been using an outdoor edge for the last decade and wouldnt go back. It is nice to have a razor sharp blade when i need it. i still carry a fixed blade buck knife that i hand sharpen but rarely use it. The only draw back i have with the outdoor edge is if you need to change the blade and there is a lot of fat on it or my hands are freezing cold. But that has only happened a few times. I have done a few elk with just one blade. Everyone has their thing if you want a nice hand made knife to clean an animal by all means buy it and use it!

If you are not looking for a replacement style knife and like buck knives i would look on ebay for an older one. The steel holds up a lot better than the newer ones IMO.

I've had my Buck Knife 110 since 1982, got it for Christmas from Mom and Dad. That knife has been used on every deer I've killed and all the elk I or my kids have killed. I used it last Saturday night to skin and cut-up my daughters elk. It's like part of me when I'm in the field. Hell, I wore it on my belt in high school, try that now! Anyway, I had to sharpen it pretty regular last saturday and I think it's time for an upgrade.
Looking at a Benchmade or maybe a Havalon with replaceable blades. Not sure I really need a $400 knife, but not sure if the replaceable blade works like advertised.
What experience does anyone have that they'd care to share?
not like you have to guess if replaceable blades work as advertised. Plenty of guys with tons of experience with them. Have not had a fixed blade knife in my pack for last 15? years. Zero need, not even to remove head or to remove fore legs.
