Total take home meat weigh it before adding fat to burger. Started at 44lb and ended with 22.7lb.

36.4 lb included all of the bone and rind that was not getting turned to burger.

All said and done I’m very happy with how it turned out and the whole process. Can’t wait to cook the first one up!

We have only had one set of steaks so far. Saving them for special occasions. They are very unique and tasty. The initial flavor is pretty similar but there is an after taste that is to die for. I don’t know how to explain it but the flavor just kinda hangs there.

My wife also made a meatloaf out of some of the grind and that was awesome as well.

All that to say if I only shot one elk I would probably not do it because of the meat loss. But if I have another banger like last year with a whole family of elk I will absolutely do it again. Even though packing out a bone in hind quarter over a mile goes against my personal rules

Dear All,

My name is James Aravena and I am from Brooklyn NY. I just got into hunting and I am fortunate enough to the invited to Cedia in Denver sept 3-6 for a conference for the company I own. I'm 21 years old, I know young to own a company but I am doing my best!

I am an insanely fast learner and have been practicing with my bow. I would love to try and extend this trip and make into somewhat of an outdoor adventure. However, I'm not comfortable to go in colorado alone just yet and I have no experience with this kind of landscape. I'm more used to shooting right outside my truck in upstate NY and PA LOL.

If there is anybody in the area somewhat around this period who doesn't mind showing me the ropes this early season (deer I think are in the east plains as I saw online). I would love to even shadow someone to learn and experience. I don't want to be a drag on anyones opening day but I promise to be a good sport.
