Evening hunt recap. Windy as heck! We sat the edge of that small meadow, tucked in tight to some for trees to block the wind. I slipped out periodically to glass up into a burn, but with the snow and the clouds line rapidly dropping, glassing was a challenge. Saw two more cow moose and a deer.
Had two moments of excitement. First was a couple of branch snaps. Nothing showed, and with the wind, it could have just been branches breaking, but it got the hopes up. The second was a bugle with about 30 minutes of light left. We shifted locations and I did some calling. Heard two more bugles, but not in response to the calls, and the bull (or maybe another hunter) wasn't coming in. Still, always awesome to hear some elk talk.
Hiked back to the sxs with the last few minutes of light in case we found a cow in an open spot, but no luck.
Really awesome way to spend an evening on the mountain with Dave. He is the genuine article.

Sounds to me like this is a great trip elk or no elk . But I think you guys will find some elk . Either way great story so far and good luck

At the glassing knob, it isn’t looking promising. I feel a relocation is in our future as this is turning into an exercise in futility. Elk are here but the weather and terrain is working against us having an encounter.

Ok, Hunttalkers. I need to be "that guy" and ask for help. I overestimated my abilities and what my body was capable of. I'm pretty nervous about my knee and what it's doing. The terrain here is pretty rough, great for elk but bad for me. I'm afraid that I'll tear it up and then I'd be in serious trouble.
So. I'm going to reach out to the group and ask if anyone has any ideas on an alternative location for a guy with mobility issues. I have a general west tag. Does anyone know of a place that your grandmother could hunt? I need something fairly flat. Downhill is my problem. A pivot. Any private land that has access to something holding elk. Even an area headed back east that I could pick up a cow tag.
I wanted to have fun and I have so far but quickly found out the difference between working out at home and hiking here in the mountains. You all have put a lot into this and I hate feeling like I'm letting you down. So any and all ideas are welcome! I'm also going to accept the "welcome to Hunttalk" comments.

There is less than 100’ of visibility in this weather. Some of this is less than 20’.
Zero point in walking around blind in 30mph fog/snow.

Man, not sure what to say.
One thing I have found over the years, is elk can be in a lot of various places. Im not sure what BLM lands is there around Kemmerer/Cokeville, but I would be inclined to glass all that lower country with those hay meadows, and try to find a piece of BLM you might be able to intercept.
Forget the mountains, elk are down low as well.

That’s is why we went and did what we did last night. Besides the big group on a private cow ranch the BLM was devoid of life.
Most of these elk are up on this face and tucked right in at the base. They haven’t migrated out yet. May need to head to further away from this herd to find them on BLM. Thinking we may relocate to the other side of the wind river range.
