The Great HT 2026 weigh in.

I’m going to jump in here. I’m turning 69 in a few weeks. On June 15th I weighed 215.8, my goal was to get down to 200 through modifying my eating habits and exercising for my October 3rd Mid Season Wasatch elk hunt. Last Monday the Sheep Gods smiled upon me and I drew an AZ Desert Big Horn Tag. I decided to focus only on that hunt and am turning the Utah elk tag back in. My new goal is 195 by December 1. 208.5 this morning. It might be hard to get into sheep shape for someone my age, but I sure will try!!
New goal is 190 by hunt time! 204.5 this morning.

Still keeping up diet of <10% calories from bread, sugar or seed oils. I eat home garden produce, fish, wild game, fruit, lots of nuts and dairy, and occasional baked potato or sweet corn. I eat a lot and eat all day. Negligible alcohol. Sitting tight at 167/168 for a couple months now. Feel great.

Every year it seems like August rolls around and I lose motivation at a time when I should be ramping it up to peak in September and October. I think it’s a combination of the heat and humidity, same hikes over and over, it still seems like eons away from season, etc.

I’ve been lifting weights more this year. It is usually just a cold winter activity. I’ve been doing 4 or 5 different lifts each day. 1 set is all of the lifts, 12 reps without putting the weights down. Rest 2 minutes and repeat. In August I’m starting to walk more. The weighted pack seems easier than years before.
