The Great HT 2026 weigh in.

I'm in. Got on the scale January 5th and weighed 243. Haven't done much the last few months exercise wise. First goal is 220 and will adjust from there. Started tracking calories for the first time and will be doing a mixture of exercise bike, walking and weights.

In case you need another reason to workout in the morning instead of the afternoon…unexpected visitors.

I hit the snooze this morning and next thing I knew it was time to get up for work. well, I figured I’d just do my workout this afternoon. I got home and got my workout gear on which today is just spandex pants(don’t knock it until you try it) a t-shirt, and an Iowa wrestling hat. The kids wanted an after school snack so I was cooking them ramen noodles and there is a knock on the door. Im ten feet from the door and I can see someone looking in, I go to the door and it’s my daughter’s teacher. She brought my daughter flowers because her grandma passed away over Christmas Break. How sweet! But jeezus I’m in spandex pants, we never get visitors!

I work with her husband so I’m sure I will get crap about this tomorrow, or maybe even tonight from him!

with kids the only reliable way i've found to work out consistently is using my lunch break at work.

i recognize that am quite lucky that i have the flexibility to take long lunches and use a rec center a mere 5 minutes away.

i would be wary of skipping sleep to work out in the mornings personally. i think the ramifications of long term sleep loss will bite you harder than any benefits gained from working out.

I go to bed between 9 and 10 and get up at 4:45 to work out. If I don’t work out I’m usually up and moving by 5:15 or 5:30 at the latest without an alarm.

I am so lucky, I go for a trail hike, during work, without taking lunch, because I’m “inspecting the trails.”

266.5 yesterday morning. Tyranny of the urgent at work. I start at 5AM and right now I'm not interested in doing my walk with a headlamp. Most days have been 10 hours or more because I have no boundaries. I walked my route once this week.

I am in GA next week for work and then AZ the week after for family business. Just frustrated as hell and wanting to do better.

Not to be a D but then feet work in any state. You just got to make it out the door 😁 sucks sometimes but it the truth... We were on a family vacation a few years back when I was running quite a bit... family was like why are you going running if you don't want...(It was a long family day out of something). I said because I'm not going to want to run tomorrow either...then the next day...next thing you know not running is the new normal

I see a lot of you say you are counting calories. Am I dumb for not counting calories? Old wrestling habits make me weigh myself every day. I think Quality of calories affects my weight much more than the number of calories.

Dumb no. It’s just hard to tell how much food you’re actually eating. If you’re not running things across the scale it’s pretty easy to eat an extra 500 plus calories on a day. Depending on how bad your habits where to are it may not matter for awhile

I’m calorie counting with the “Lose it” app. It worked for me quickly before my cancer surgery and it’s proving to work again. Also, eating a Mediterranean diet and doing cardio.
December 28th I was 201.8 and thought, “OK, time to stop gaining”. By January 8, I was back down to 193.8.
It’s working for me, but I understand it may not be for everyone. I would like to stay around 190-195.

Everyone is different and knowing your body and what works for you is key, not what some knuckleheads on hunt talk says! 🤪

If I eat 2500 calories worth of Mike and Ike’s and cookies that is going to affect me more adverse then if I eat 4000 calories worth of lean protein, veggies, and fruit cooked in good oils with salt and pepper.

My point more was I did 45 min of cardio this morning and burnt around 350 calories. If I don’t watch my food on that scale I can just as easy consume that 350 calories and should have just laid in bed and not eat the extra food.

Likewise a lot of people also say I worked out this morning I can eat a snickers.

Exactly I got a decent eye right now for what 6oz of chicken looks like in October I didn’t. It’s easy to add more food than your realize without a scale. So per your previous question no I don’t think it’s dumb to not count calories but at some point you about have to. It comes down to some pretty basic math at some point
