I've considered Nebraska, but the pay is quite a bit less and property taxes get pretty high in some counties. I haven't put any thought into the Dakotas.

South Dakota isn’t going to pay any better than Nebraska.

Im hoping it doesn't get derailed. Really just want information from people in the area that know about Wisconsin. It's a big decision to make, moving halfway across the country. Im trying to put my wife and kids in a good position for the future.

I will address the politics since you brought it up: it’s one of the most purple states in the country overall.

I personally like that about Wisconsin (we dislike both parties about equally IMO), but it is most certainly a battleground state come election time.

*This varies by region obviously, but it’s about as 50/50 as you’re going to find.

I would try to visit as much as possible and bring your wife if you can. Obviously wisconsin isn't wyoming as far as big game hunting goes. But it's a pretty good place with good people which could be said for most places, well the people part anyway. Its funny you brought this thread up i haven't traveled all 50 states but I've been to quite a few and my two places I would like to move to are wisconsin and wyoming coincidentally but for extremely different reasons for both.

I definitely lean a particular way with my beliefs, but I am against a 2 party system, that imo, breeds corruption. There are certain things that I do not want my kids taught in school, but it is getting harder to avoid at this point. I guess it is an important topic when choosing somewhere to live, but I try to avoid political chats as much as possible.

I am fairly close with my neighbors in a few different directions, and after about 10 years I can honestly say I don’t know how any of them vote. It has never come up and we hang out quite a bit.

(My one neighbor was wearing a Ruth Bader Ginsburg t-shirt when she was getting the mail a few years ago, so I have an idea with that one…)

Im good with purple. I think having that brings conversation to the table, which is desperately needed. I definitely lean a particular way with my beliefs, but I am against a 2 party system, that imo, breeds corruption. There are certain things that I do not want my kids taught in school, but it is getting harder to avoid at this point. I guess it is an important topic when choosing somewhere to live, but I try to avoid political chats as much as possible.

Luckily we homeschool which changes that dynamic quite a bit. Im right there with you on all of this though.

Not a bad way to go about it. I don't need to know how someone votes to share a beer or bbq.

I am glad my kids are grown and can think as individuals. The world is a scary place to navigate these days. I think I gave them the tools to get through. Now, I have a Granddaughter to spoil. Perfect. mtmuley

If everything works out and my wife can retire, this might be the direction we go as well. She is super smart and I think it would be great for her and the kids. She missed out on a lot of time with them working her ass off.

Feel free to reach out about that as well. I was very hesitant at first. It has been truly awesome and my kids are excelling far past what they were in school and even then they had a Class so of around 9 kids per grade at that time.
