Tell me about fly fishing

Maybe I am misunderstanding, only 18”-24”??

A quick google search says depending on your water, fish finickyness, and style of fly you’re flipping, generally the rule of thumb is a leader as long as your rod, give or take..
This might quickly surpass bowhunting and tie with golf for expensive hobbies! 😅

18-24 tippet; rod length plus or minus a little of tapered leader.

I've chewed.kymleaders down to nothing & thrown 5 feet of tippet on them. It all catches fish.

When I first started, I went through leaders like crazy. Now one will last a long time.

Get tippet material from 0x through 5-6x. Google leader formulas and see how you too can stop spending so much money for tapered leaders & enjoy your fishing more.

And use backing. If nothing else it gives you security & it helps increase retrieval rates.

I primarily fish for trout usually rivers, some lakes. I mostly use a 9 foot leader, with no tippet. Once changing flies (or breakoffs) gets me down to 7 to 8 feet, i tie on about 3 feet of tippet. Always try to do it BEFORE the taper on the leader
