My kid is into handguns and the ol pellet pistol isn't doing it for him anymore. I am going to match 50/50 anything he can save for a revolver in .22 LR. I know Taurus had some issues years ago, but heard they are better now. Anybody familiar with Taurus? I'm kinda looking for a used Tracker in .41 Magnum for myself too. mtmuley

My girlfriend has the tracker .41 and it's a really nice handgun. S&W are obviously the Cadillacs of the revolvers across the board but that said I'd recommend a Ruger single six for a kid. That's the route I went.

Taurus are the handguns of choice in my household.
My wife carries the PT 709 Slim (not a revolver). She loves it. Not a "firearms gal" though initiates going to the range to shoot with a friend of hers. That is good stuff. It has good safety features and shoots good at the range necessary for a solid case of self defense.
I carry my Judge Polymer and love it! Between my duty carry (H&K P2000), glock 23 and the judge, they all have their benefits. Back country - I prefer the judge. running around town, I switch between the Judge and the 23.
I shot a S&W Governor and compared it with my Judge... I shot better and more accurately with the Judge. 2.5" barrel - I hit pie plate size at 25 yards. Only bonus tot he S&W was 6 shot vs the judge 5 shot.

All the rambling aside, I can not speak for the time where the Taurus was in a questionable status - I didn't know it was - though not something I really followed closely prior to our Taurus purchases. Though we really enjoy our Taurus brand purchases and a few close friends are in the same group... for what it is worth.

I have a ruger single six. It's a very solid gun, no play in the cylinder lock, crisp trigger.
Mine came with a spare cylinder for .22 magnum but I don't know if they all come with a spare.

I'd probably go the Ruger route if I had the choice but I've had no problems with my Taurus snub nose .45 ACP revolver

I'm not familiar with the Taurus .22, but I have a Judge and a Raging Bull .44 mag and love both guns. They both work flawlessly and they are priced fairly. I would have no problem buying another Taurus.

They did have some problems a while back. My dad had a Tracker in 22 Mag and 17HMR. He could not get the pistol to sight in at all. He took it to the dealer and they looked it over and discovered that the barrel was "curved" just so slightly. So he brought in the 22 Mag and that was also slightly "curved". They both went back to Taurus and returned after being fixed. I had a Tracker in 357 Mag for a while. I personally did not care for the grip, but it was a good shooter. I then had a M44 in 44 mag. That was a great shooter, but then I found what I really wanted. The Raging Bull 44 Mag. I had the 8 3/4" Blued but when ever I wiped down the barrel to clean it, it appeared like a rust color on the rag. I traded it in for the 6" Stainless Raging Bull. These Raging Bulls are great shooters. I have plans to get a Judge sometime in the future and if I can ever find one at a decent price, a Raging Bee (218 Bee) or Raging Hornet (22 Hornet). Taurus has a lifetime warranty to. And thats on the gun, not the original owner.

I've been packing a 4" Taurus 357 since they 1st came out 30 or so years ago. Just don't shoot rat shot out of it and it'll do great. A sliver of the plastic casing got into the cylinder release and was the dickings to get cleaned out, but the water moccasin went Bye-Bye. ;) Hard to beat for the money.

Price is what attracted me to the Taurus. We'll see how much cash a 12 year old can stash I guess. I have Rugers and Colts, and Ruger makes a solid gun. The single six makes a ton of sense for a kid though. Thanks guys. mtmuley

The Caddy of the revolvers was and always will be the Colt Python, but the Smiths are a good second place;)
I owned a Taurus .22 revolver. It was a good gun, no complaints. Just didn't shoot it much and sold it off for a MarkII. I still have a Taurus Ti in 41 mag with the ported 1.5 inch barrel as a bear sidearm. It's as much fun to shoot as getting punched in the nuts,

I got a M44 when I graduated high school. Had to send it in a few years ago to get a timing lockup issue fixed. It's still a great shooter. I also have the TCP 380 that has been a great little gun and goes everywhere I go.
