Yeah, and meanwhile I have to pass a federal background check, provide my fingerprints (x2), sign an NDA type agreement, renew my lincpass every other year it seems, change my passwords every couple months, take all sorts of security training, etc. etc. etc. all to collect tree data...

Nothing to see here, move along...
 
So it begins. Ontario is leading the charge removing all US alcohol from its LCBOs, that represents 1 billion in sales for Ontario alone on US alcohol. Most Provinces are following suit and that could amount to 2+ billions in annual sales of US alcohol alone. Who's really being penalized here? Did they really think Canada would just sit down and take tariffs like good boys?

The story most would be interested of on here would be my wife's family who traveled out West (those times out West was Ohio) and lost his whole family (14) to tuberculosis. The patriarch survived and packed up and headed further West on a wagon train and found himself in fights with the Native Americans along the way. He ended up in Oklahoma with a new family along the way. While he was away from the family buying cattle at an auction with his youngest, the Natives raided his home and killed everyone including his new wife and a 2 year old baby. The whole thing was documented in the local paper (which was more of a quarterly newsletter). Needless to say the paper further documented the reaction of the settlers to the Native Americans which expressed an unsureness that they got the right ones but they made their point. They sold off everything that they owned and packed up again to head for California. They ran into more Native American trouble along the way and ran out of money and eventually settled in TX. That young man that went to the auction with his dad by complete chance survived the whole ordeal built a ranch and became one of my wife's ancestors; founder of a church; town founder and his grandson was a Texas Ranger. That ranger was my wife's grandfather's grandfather.

It was a go West story of America if you ever heard of one. I eventually meet and Married my Wife in HI which is odd since both of our families were in the some of the same areas back East.

Similar stack of generations before me, except we were Yankees. Family tree on this continent traced to 1608.

My family was both Yankees & Southerners. Civil War was a couple hundred years latter but that was truly a war of brother against brother in my family.

They originally landed in VA (Jamestown), first wave and survived. He acted as a liaison between the settlement and the tribes exploring new cultures and territory when he could. Eventually moved to what is now known as Delmarva to get away from population growth and government intervention :).

Ancestor seemed to be trying not to get too noticed too much by the King so they moved away from Jamestown and tried to stay out of the limelight. He moved away from the settlement and lived with the Natives establishing commerce and warring with them against other tribes.

This kept him at arms length from Jamestown government except to sell merchandise (primarily tobacco and Native American goods necessary for the settlement), and made him an invaluable resource to the colonies which is why the let him do it.

the reality is any presidential admin has little if any idea on how much illegal drugs are coming into the country. Only way to measure is second derivative data- overdoses and deaths.

Okay you can try to spin it as “down” but it is from a record high that is nowhere near where it has been. But feel good you got that “win”.

Yes, very cool to have so much actual history notes.
My uncle did the research for my Mom's side. Dutch settlers were some of the first. But a real mixing pot beyond. Funny how certain politicians conveniently overlook history.
Heavy Scot and English on Dads side, but Mom's indicates significant Spanish ( Cuba), German, some French, and Dutch.
Significant military persons up until WW2.
There doesn't appear to be much wanderlust from the Eastern seaboard.

A drop in deaths is a drop in deaths, regardless of whether it came from a record high or not. WHO knows if it’s sustainable or what it means in the long run, but it’s still a measured decrease of 15-20%.

Talk about “spin”…

I've been working pretty hard on my family tree and it's absolutely worth it. The French Jesuits had a habit of recording everything and having been involved in almost every aspect of New France, means there are extremely good and accurate records for those with French Canadian ancestry. The stories and life of my ancestors is remarkable. The first one to land in North America did so in 1606.

Two of my ancestors were children abducted in New England by Abenakis warriors and brought back to Canada. The two white children were adopted and lived amongst the Abenaki, married eachother and one of their son became the "Great White Abenaki Chief" of his band.

Another one of my ancestors is Jean Nicolet who was the first white dude West of the Great Lakes where he returned home with a "savage" daughter who would later have several children who would be involved in fur trade and exploration. I take great pride in my many indigenous, explorer, bush runners, voyageurs and fur trader ancestors.

Three of my French Canadian ancestors even took part in the American Revolutionary War, two of them fought British troops transiting from Canada to the US and the other spied and sold goods to the revolutionists!

It took a bit of digging but I got real lucky because I'm of English descent. They tracked everything via baptisms, taxes and tithing so it made it possible to dig up births and deaths.
