Tape at the end of barrel?

Having watched all of the Fresh Tracks episodes, I have noticed in the first seasons the ends of the rifle barrels were black. I always thought maybe it was just a custom black end. In season 7 ep 3 it looked like the ends of the rifles had electrical tape on them. > If it is I'm assuming its to keep rain/snow out of your barrel??? > If it is do you take the tape off before you shoot or leave it on? >If its not tape what is it?
I have some of those finger gloves from a first aid kit that I’ll roll down. I use them mainly for Muzzy season but depending on the weather/distance/gnar I will put one over rifle as needed. Company’s started making covers for barrels these days that you could take a more permanent approach h with but, if you don’t take them off and pull the trigger they’ll be much more expensive than some cut ub rubber gloves!

There’s been many “tests” done on the electrical tape on a muzzle of a gun barrel.
Probably can find one on YouTube or somewhere.
It had been pretty much shown that the tape does not affect accuracy.
I use tape on my barrel and it has saved hunts and I have taken game without any loss of putting the bullet where I wanted it.
The pressure from the shot blows the tape off before the bullet exits the muzzle.
Plus it’s much easier getting a role of electrical tape that will last years and that stays on until you take it off or shoot.

I always left it on, it never seemed to be an issue.

I have used electrical tape for about 25 years. Maybe longer.... I also put a wrap around the barrel behind the tape as a spare. If I shoot the gun during bad weather, I can then tape it back up. I also tie a thread around the barrel as a wind detector. Sometimes. I use the extra wrap of tape to secure the thread. Pick a color that you can see contrasting with the background (leaves, snow, etc).
I love the thread on the barrel idea. I've been trying to think of a way to have a wind indicator with me while out and about. That is genius.

yep. I keep a few wraps on the end of the barrel for when the weather turns. One thing too that isnt mentioned too much but I have found to be absolutely great when you need it is rubber bikini scope caps. I have had a fogged up scope ruin more stuff than a damp barrel so I tend to usually keep one on if I am hunting in adverse weather. Its quick to pop off and far better than the plastic junk with the elastic as far as being actually weather proof. As an added bonus if your out driving/walking around when its dusty it keeps the dust off your lenses.

I've started using the Alpine Innovations Slicker. Does a good job of protecting the lenses as well as keeping dust and moisture off the whole scope. I thought it would be cumbersome or slow to pull it off, but I jsut grab the tab and pull it over, it goes really quick. And it stays attached to the scope so I don't have to worry about loosing it. Highly recommend.

IDK, I use Harbor Freight blue nitrile gloves, the middle finger seemed to protect best and added velocity.
