One of my worst memories when I was a kid was seeing my great grandfather, grandfather, n uncles getting ready and heading north to go hunting, I am not letting that happen to my grandson....
Planning on taking my grandson w me the second weekend up to Montana for about 5 days. We will be staying near Augusta at my friends place. Planning on going near Haystack for “any” buck (muley/whitetail) and “any” elk (preferably good meat cow). Being he is still a kid I’m not going to be able to take him in the areas I usually hunt; too rough, anyone out there have any other suggestions on other places that would be doable for a 7yo? Not looking for “trophies” being anything w him would be a trophy in our mind; not to mention just the experience of him being up there w me.
Also clothes wise for him, I know and have experienced the weather changes up there, any suggestions on decent clothes for him? Don’t want to get him “high end” stuff that he will just grow out of. N if anyone has any “hand me downs” shoot me a pm. Looking at thrift stores around here but ain’t much of that kind of stuff in San Antonio!!!

My son used to wear Cabelas Berber fleece. Not sure if they still sell it. Cool that you want to take him along. If he hasn’t been hunting already, you might want to plan lots of breaks, etc.
Be sure to take him hunting in Texas. He can legally hunt big game there.

There are several thrift stores not far away in Great Falls, where you can likely pick up whatever warm clothes you need for him. Good on you for taking him with you. I started taking my son hunting when he was six and he has done likewise with my grandson.
Grandson now twelve has recently completed hunters ed and is ready to go. He has been hiking with us as we hunt for several years and it's surprising how well a seven-year-old can hike. Don't even worry about that. Just take it easy and let him snack and rest when he wants.

He has been hunting w me n my son (his dad) since he has been in diapers. N was on the rt side of the rifle last year; already a hell of a shot!!!
