Start with heading over to the state forums, you can learn lots from reading residents' posts about various issues. And since you enjoyed the video, IIRC Randy also did a podcast episode about Montana wildlife politics you could listen to.

State and Regional issues can usually be followed with your state affiliate of the Wildlife Federation or BHA. Each state will also have an independent group, with the Michigan United Conservation Clubs coming to mind as an example of a long-standing state group.
