Just put in my apps today for tags for myself and the lil huntress. Given the school schedule and the seasons here in CO we had to focus on RFW tags for her which were over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. Wish I could take her to the mountain with me but a week and a half out of school in October is a no go. How do all of you juggle trying to get the kids out with school?

I'm sure things are different now but my dad took me out of school for a full week from the time I was in the 3rd grade for hunting, but that was in 1970.

Pennsylvania handled it well.......schools used to be closed 1st few days of Rifle Week.
At least outside of the cities.

In southeast Idaho we had spud harvest which was at least 2 weeks off. It happened to coincide with deer season-I never worked in the spuds. My children were mostly homeschooled so I could do what I wanted with them when I wanted. That said, when it was time to put them into school we just tested them into the correct age group and the school had to accept the results, kinda like the GED program.
If I were you, I would take kids from Friday night, all the next week till the following Sunday, that's nine days, plenty of time to teach the tricks. Good luck.

Schoolwork can be done ahead of time or made up. Time in the woods...not so much. mtmuley

Lots of late season opportunities for kids if they have the right regular season cow tag. I think there are some deer and antelope opportunities as well. Have you read up on how the youth program works with late season hunts?

I have a buddy who took both of his boys out of school every year for hunting season. The teachers would give them the week's worth of assignments and the boys would do them at night by lantern light. It was actually a good bribery point with him. He would only take the boys out if they had at least a B at the time, so the boys worked really hard in school to be able to miss the week, and still had their assignments done to turn in when they got back to school.

^^^^this... sound advice from Oak. Crowding is less too that time of year. There are even some areas that are youth /mentor only.

My girls get an entire week in October now for fall break. Would have been nice to have when I was a kid.

A very good approach. Some kids can get a B with minimal effort and others have to put in a lot of effort. Life is not fair so a B is a good benchmark rather than adjust the grade target for each kid.

One of my best memories was when I was in 5th grade n my teacher said my father was here to take me to the dentist; hated the dentist so I wasn't a happy camper. Went to the office, dad was there n said it was time to go, I was upset, got to the truck n it was loaded down. He took me hunting instead of the dentist, was an awesome time. I've done the same thing now w my son, daughter, and grandson. Love the look on their faces when they figured out what was going on!!

Parent teacher conferences always fell on a Thursday and Friday... Take Thursday Friday off and "can't make it to conferences" as long as the grades are good of course and bam four day weekend to hunt
