Superior 7MM?

Probably buy but we will see how the budget is looking after my hunt next year

For buying a light hunting rifle, I'd watch gunbroker for a good deal on a Kimber in 280AI or a Remington M7 in 7SAUM.
Or just about anything you like that comes in a 7-08.
I've got hunting rifles in all three. The 7-08 gets the most use, but I really like all three.

I've been interested in 7 SAUM before, how do you like it compared to the other 2

It is basically the 280AI in a short action. You can use the same starting reloading data as the internal volume of the cases are so close. It doesn't really do anything the others don't do, but it is unique.
If limited to factory loads it probably wouldn't be a great choice.

I'm shooting a Hornady 150 gr CX at 3175 fps out of my 7mm Rem Mag. 0.5 MOA with my handloads. With a suppressor, the recoil is very mild. If a belted cartridge bothers you, go with the 7MM PRC. Otherwise, stay with the 7mm Rem Mag. If you drop to the 7mm-08, just go with a 308 and take advantage of the larger diameter and far greater expanded frontal area. Just my $0.02.

From what I gather the benefit of the PRC is its ability to shoot the heavier bullets fast but with that comes higher recoil I thought?

I also hear the 7PRC has some pressure/carbon build up issues. I don’t see a good enough reason to ever go away from the tried and true 7 rem mag. That 155 grain factory terminal ascent has performed great on big game out to 500 yards for me and shoots sub half minute groups.

I’d consider a 6.5 PRC for a fun to shoot light rifle that my kids could shoot early on but honestly would probably go 243, 7-08 or 270 cause I’m cheap and like easy to find ammo.

I'm running 175 TA's on my 308. Also the 165 TBT's. I can get well below 1 MOA with either. Great bullets. Couldn't find any 155 gr TA's for 7mm when I started developing a load. Found the CX-150's worked great and stayed with them. Otherwise I agree, just stay with the 7mm Rem Mag.

Sir.. everyone knows the 7rm is the greatest of the 7’s. That said I have a bit a of 7 mm addiction. Currently I have the 7/08 running 140’s, 7 rm running 168’s, 7 prc running 195’s, 28 Nosler running 195’s and got an itch to get a 7prcw to run 168/175’s. You can’t go wrong with any of your choices. Wouldn’t fault you for picking the 7HT. But hear me out. 7 prc/7prcw/7saum 20” 8.5 twist.

If I ever add a belted 7mm to my lineup, it would be a tossup between the STW and the WBY. Would probably just depend on finding the rifle more than the cartridge.

Buying or building?
Long action 280AI
Short action 7SAUM
I built exactly that same combo, one as primary and one as the backup for a Moose hunt next Sept. The cases are very close in capacity, so the same powder and charge with the same bullet work in either rifle. The 280ai has a 22" 1-7 twist fluted stainless on an Impact LA NBK and the 7RSAUM has a 1-8 26" CF barrel on a short action ARC Coup De Grace. Both get the 160gr Accubonds over 2900fps easily with N560. Plenty accurate out to any distance I care to shoot them.
