Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Sunday Pic of the Day

Toured one of the last surviving Liberty Ships.
Spent a day on the J. O'Brian when we buried my mom & dad @ sea. 1998.
My dad was in the 1st class @ Kingspoint Merchant Marine Academy and served all WWII on Victory ships and tankers. His alumni group funded the restoration of the O' Brian and the Lane Victory.
The Admiral of the Academy and Chaplin who presided were in his class. We were gathered and they told us to wait as the other families of the service members where buried outside the Golden Gate.

The Admiral directed the ship to the very center under the bridge and stopped the ship. Then we buried them there ,along with my dress blues mom had saved with the bobbles I came back from Nam with. Closure.

We then spent the afternoon touring the ship & bay, and the bone yard of the Victory ships. Heard some wild stories from the Admiral & Chaplin of my dad's service I never knew. Also the day I found out mom was a decorated Navy Captain and not just another 1st LT WAVE.

Note: The J. O'Brian was used for the internal ships views in the movie Titanic.
