Sometimes bears look like big black stumps. Sometimes big black stumps look like bears. Dry-fire practice on big black stumps = good preparation for big, black bears.

BIG bears hibernate in big caves. Good thing FWP put a grate over this bear den. I don't think we want to meet him in the dark. ( abandoned gold mine)

Finding old socket drivers that a logger left behind doesn't put a wrench in our plans. Other critters are more numerous than bears, but we don't care. As my son put it, "This was better than going into a video game store with a $1000 in your pocket." Although he did have to agree with me when I said I'd rather go into a video game store with $1000 in my pocket and come back out with the $1000 and go bear hunting.

Lesson two coming soon....

Looks like a good time. Its not snowing?

Sunny and 60 degrees in NW Montana! Rained a bit in the morning and turned into a nice day.

Looks like you all had a great day in the mountains. Hopefully some grip n grin pics follow soon! Good luck.

Gerald what are the FS roads looking like up there in NW Montana, still pretty snowy or drying out? I'm headed up North of Libby May 5-10th and unfortunately have to take the wife's Subaru Forester and I'm a bit worried about just getting to the trail head considering the amount of snow we have down here in Bozeman.

Wow, not as much snow as I would have expected to see! Looks like it might be an early season. Planning on heading up by Kalispell around May 20....might have to head up high!

Roads are pretty open around here for this time of year. You should be good unless you plan on driving up high.
