My son shot his Whitetail buck for Lubbock county this morning. Not sure how much interest he will have in hunting in Fisher county on our land there now that he has this one one the ground.

The best part is that he shot him from the back balcony of our house. We’ve lived in our current house for 18 years now and saw maybe 3 deer the first 5 years we lived here. 5 years ago they opened a short mule deer season for Lubbock county and 3 years ago they opened a Whitetail season. This morning we saw 6 Whitetail bucks on our property.

Pretty amazing how well they are doing and that they have done it pretty much on their own. Maybe more amazing is there are still places where deer are just now repopulating.

Pretty proud of him. 195 yard shot with a .223 Barnes TTSX.

Nice buck! Congrats to you both.

I've learned over the years not to pass on the gimmes, because the next one will probably more than make up for it in effort required!

Thanks for the comments. He is very happy with him. We saw 6 bucks that morning and 5 were within shooting range from the house. One would have required a stalk and my son still has a hard time moving into position and getting setup for a shot so we elected to go for the biggest one within rifle range. This is his 3rd deer at age 11. Pretty spoiled kid, he doesn’t know what a tough hunt is. Hopefully we will get that sorted out in a few more years so he can look back at hunts like this and appreciate how easy they are.

We did recover the bullet. Performed perfectly.
