Went out this afternoon for a quick shoot and bagged a little Canada with an interesting Head/neck and other parts of his body. Never bagged one like this before

For us this year was a very low numbers year for geese, when the geese come in good we get lots of those Canadas, we've always called them cacklers or cackling Canadian geese.

I shot one of these last week in Maryland and had never seen one either. Fishing for Santity is correct, its a cackling Canadian goose.

nice. The hunting /weather hasn't been the best this year. I have shot a ton of geese over the years and never shot one of these. . .nice. Are they about the same size as regular?

I was taking about all the white on his head and neck

We winter a lot of these little Cackling Geese (Richardsons) on the eastern plains

That is a cool looking goose. Doesn't look like a Quill Lakes goose.

Maybe some Snow goose in his mama's past?

Here are a couple of Quill lakes we shot last year.

It is definitely one of the species housed under the Cackling Canada Goose subspecies. That being said, the white feathers can be indicative of a lot of things including stress, damage to the feathers and regrowth, and sometimes age.

Ever see a person with snow white patches on their skin ?.....same sorta thing. Lack of melanin in those feathers.
