SFC B's yearly folly.......

Went to the house for lunch and to dry out..... Seriously thought about not going back out as it was just turning to snow again. Redman kinda have me a shrug and I knew I had to. Put some water proofs on and got back up. It was steady light snow all afternoon. Until about 1630 not much went on. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught movement on the far end of the crp (200m). 2 does came out and fed in the opening for about 10 min. Them i caught movement the other direction in the field. A lone doe was hauling ass from east to west at about 250m. Another 10-15 min go by and in the direction the first 2 does here comes a shooter, mature 8-10 pt head down. In front of him a doe had slipped in. They were at about 175m. They circled in front of me and then dipped into the woods at about 70-80 m. If ONLY it was NEXT weekend!!! Before it got dark I had 3 pairs of basket rack/doe running the field and 2 more does in the thick CRP. Closest anything got was a good sized doe to about 40, but she was in stuff so thick all I could see was her head. If she'd have given me an opening she would be hanging in a tree now and it would have only been about a 20m drag to the road. Great night in the end.
The rut is going STRONG right now in the Midwest. Saw pairs and triples of bucks chasing hot does while prepping the box blind today. 6 more days till our rifle season opens.

Today was cold and blustery. Only went from mid 20s to lowc30s all day. I was in the woods this morning and with zero sun it was cold. Saw 4 deer total. First, a yearling doe by herself. Then a doe fawn running east to west. Finally, a mature doe walked through the brush along the ravine with a basket 8 a couple of seconds behind her. All were out of range and covered up.

Went in for lunch and warm up. Came back out at 1400 and went to the CRP. Pretty chilly with flurries of and on all afternoon. Only deer action was a doe(?) That got to admit 40m in THICK stuff before it busted out. Windows going the other way so maybe got reefection off of my glasses. Tried to gr I not at it a few seconds later and got blown at 4 times 🤣🤣

I spent the morning in the ladder on the CRP. Total of 5 does in various spots and one decent 8 pt that ran through the opening at the far end. I grunted hard at him but he didn't even show down. After lunch I headed into the woods and had 1 lonely doe cruise through.

Today started as a goat molestation..... with the logging that went this year the woods look different. The main trail I used to get to the woods stand is blocked by 2 big oak tops and multiflora rose. Guess what happened...SMFH... ended up about 200m off at the creek. FFS, knew where I was but wasn't happy. By the time I had stomped through the woods for what felt like an hour, I got to the stand dripping sweat 😞 took a while to cool off. Ended up seeing a nanny doe, a forky andvthen a 2/3 yo 8 pt chssing a doe that was enough to make me grab the crossbow....really not big enough and thankfully he was never uncovered by brush so my mind was made for me.

Went on for gas and lunch and brought out my ground blind to set up on the opening off the CRP at a 4 way pinch point. Saw zero in the afternoon sit. Starts warming up tomorrow.....NOT what I wanted for gun season. Freaking 68 on the opener 😞
