Self defense pistol worth the weight?

Some handguns are really heavy, but most guns that people carry aren't. Unless you are carrying a large amount of ammo, a small nine, or small revolver is only 1-2 lbs. That would be plenty in most cases and better than nothing.

Most people can easily lose that much weight to make up the difference or take a few things out of their pack. If you hunt where there's not many people, but lots of critters, carrying is probably worth the weight.

Something like 25-30 lion related deaths in NA in the last 130 years, of those 5 were adult men.

Wear your seat belt to the trailhead, get your butt below timberline during lightening storms, bring warm layers, and make sure you’re in shape for a strenuous hunt.

I'm somewhat more concerned by bipeds than four-legged predators in many of my hunting spots. At least one regular on here has describing preventing himself from getting robbed of a nice elk he was butchering by calming laying his CCW on the bull's shoulder in full view of two meth heads.

They are security blankets for adults.
Haha!
I have other security blankets too. Like a spare tire, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and other items that I hope I don’t need to use.
Cool thing about my security blanket is I use it for more than just protecting myself from man eating critters. It’s accounted for a few menacing grouse though. Honestly never had a bad encounter with a critter in the woods and don’t anticipate it.

One time grouse hunting I had a stare off with a nice sized cougar at about 50 yards. Got a couple photos of him, but my 45 acp loaded with 255 gr+p hard cast was under 3 layers of clothing.

Had an almost confrontation last summer with a hopped-up shirtless dude out on a remote one lane dirt road. I was parked on the side, and while driving by he leaned out the passenger window, wildly screaming nonsense. I was waiting for his girlfriend to hit the brakes but she kept driving, likely in a hurry to get somewhere more remote and puff the crystal pony. It was in an area of NE Oregon where another HT member earlier this year said he always carries because it's a rough area. It can be, and that's why I usually have my little blue blanket.
