This is getting pretty bad this year. Let's hope for an early frost and no hard south winds. Washington and Waukesha county are getting hammered. I had a neighbor ask me what to do with this dead stinky buck in his yard yesterday. When I mountain biked in Washington county I smelled a couple in the woods. Anyone know any dying further north of those 2 counties?

Can't help with your question but EHD can really devastate a deer herd. In 2013 I found 13 dead deer on my small 52 acre parcel. Took about 7 years to somewhat recover back to what the population was. And im in the golden triangle of illinois right in middle of corn and bean country where habitat is as good as it gets.
I haven’t heard of any up by me, I am seeing a boatload of deer around lately though. Loads of acorns bringing them into the open woods the past few weeks.

Wow. I went for my usual bike ride route with the wife today from Merton to North lake to Monches. Fields that had 5-15 deer even in hot sunny August had nothing today on a cool overcast morning. Definitely smelled a few. This is apocalyptic in this area and have lots of people telling me about more they had drop over in backyards. I doubt the DNR will publicly say how bad it is to not hurt tag sales. Car insurance companies must be grinning though.

Hit here in 2012. Still haven’t recovered. Numbers wise we’re getting close. The problem with EHD is it hurts those with the most antler surface the most. It not only wipes out the big deer, but also their genetics as well. It does a number on does and small bucks as well. It’s a terrible deal
