One of the best things for improving habitat for mule deer is fires. The forest service is doing prescribed burns more and more, and many times the RMEF, the Mule Deer Foundation, and other organizations help to fund these projects.

15,500 bitter brush planted in winter habitat in the last two years. Pretty cool.

How's the Idaho deer population doing now? That's a great project, but I wish it was everywhere.

So maybe all out of state hunters should pay residents for time spent planting bitterbrush, or what ever project?

haha, they do. Who do you think bought those bushes? Do you know how much federal money is spent on the 65% of the federal land in Idaho? I bet lots. Keep planting them good bushes!

controlled burns, its a lot of planning to control it, I think. I've heard talks on it, but not done one. I think the budget on federal lands is about 10.7 billion dollars per year, it comes from taxes of the US citizens.

Of course there are the natural lightning caused fires that they are now letting many of them burn as long as no structures are threatened.
