Hi ,

New to this forum. I am looking for help on tent camping opportunities in the Nebraska sandhills. I have been to Nebraska Nat forest near Bessey to hunt grouse and other locations for hunting doves. What I am trying to find is an area to tent camp with my son and our dog for a week of grouse hunting. don't need help finding birds, only a suitable location to enjoy a week of sunsets and camp life. I suppose public land I am looking for . thanks!

I would think that you could camp in the National forest. I don't know of any restrictions. There is a lake on the south edge of the National forest (Merritt reservoir) that had camping sites last time we were there.

Good luck to all

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond. I live in NE Iowa and just love the wide open spaces that Nebraska has to offer. I guess I meant to say near Halsey, Nebraska Nat Forest. From the regulations it appears "dispersed camping" means any camping within 300 yards of an established trail.
