Safety first...

Yikes. Glad you're OK minus the scope nose.

I see pictures of myself in the 'old days' with a backwards ball cap and sunglasses and always count my blessings I never smashed into anything (didn't smash too badly, at least).

Not exactly sure what happened to cause the wipeout - was cruising along at a pretty good clip on a steep groomer and then just lost it. The damage, though, was due to the fact that it went from 70 degrees yesterday to low 20’s and 6” of fresh powder last night. So under that nice powder was solid ice and likely what cracked the helmet.

Pretty sore right hip and left elbow, but my head seems to be OK (or at least as OK as it ever is). It was quite the yard sale! @DouglasR would have been impressed! The nice guy who collected my gear and brought it to me seemed concerned about all the blood on my face. I think he was more panicked than I was. Pic above was after I’d cleaned it up. Looked worse than it was. I didn’t even notice my helmet was cracked until I got home.

I’ll count myself lucky on this one. I’m getting my first COVID vaccine this afternoon, so I’m sure my body will be in full revolt against me by tomorrow! 🤕

Damn, I can’t believe the helmet cracked like that!

Again, glad you’re ok.

ps. Idk if you remember my covid vaccination story, but I’d definitely recommend getting a new helmet before you go to get yours! 😉
😂😂😂

Also glad to hear you're okay.
Tried "cross country" in 1984. Too much work.
After reading an article in Readers Digest many moons back about a skier.
An accomplished skier they had spent the afternoon skiing. They decided to return to the lodge. He turned down hill and suddenly realized he was out of control.
Hit a tree and had several horrendous injuries including a split pelvis!
Said he looked down in the hospital bed and realized his testicles were the size of cantaloupes!
Thanks, but no thanks on the skiing!

Glad you're ok! Hard to believe it wasn't too many years ago nobody was wearing helmets.
Yeah, I was one of the holdouts for helmet wearing. But once the apps came out to measure speed and I started pushing myself to go faster, I decided a helmet was no longer optional. Speed at time of crash today was 54 mph, which is about my typical speed on that run. Still not exactly sure what happened.

I like to challenge myself by going as slow as possible haha. I see these kids rip down those hills in a straight line and my heart starts pounding. I like a nice slow cruise and have no intention of ever impressing anyone with my ski ability's. Greens and blues and cruising down like a old slow Lincoln. I figure im gonna crash anyway and id rather crash slowly rather than stapling myself to a tree trunk.

Glad to see you walked away from it - I always amazed when I see folks skipping helmets - I learned my lesson many years ago cracking a helmet on concrete that didn't like the motorcycle I was driving.

Now you know why I don't ski. Haven't since I busted some ribs crashing into a tree when I lost control trying to learn to ski during military cold weather training. Never got back on skis again.

And when you stopping Cheyenne way next?

You and me both! Cruise slow and easy. I haven't skied in a while but I really enjoyed it. I liked everything about it - except speed! Maybe that is why I never caught the motorcycle bug......

Thanks for posting. Good reminder.
I was well along as an adult before skiing/mountain biking with a helmet.
Yet still people have died this year locally from blunt force head trauma skiing.
That helmet did its job.
