Hang in there John. This quote has helped me in tough times:

So sorry to hear that - thoughts and prayers for you and all your family and friends. Knowing what Dad's do - he'll still want to tell you what to do and when to do it - just take it and smile. Sure wish my old hunting partner was still with us.

I would like to express my Thanks to everyone. Sometimes ya gotta let it out. Daddy has had Congestive Heart Failure for a very long time and now they say even with a Pacemaker he has less than 25% if that of Heart function. In talking with my sister yesterday I found out that I can check him out for trips and outings. The first outing I think will be to my house, I saw that the Bream were starting to bed up and he loves to feel those little buggers pull! Once again from Me to YOU...Thanks! John

John, thanks for sharing with us. The 'net has made it possible for people to expand their circle to people of like mind, beyond the small reach that would otherwise be limited by distance.
An old friend, the poet Gary Short, once wrote:
"At the place where the bird was subtracted from air was a list of the names of friends alive,
and next to it a list of the dead. I read the two columns, then realized I will lose everyone through death, theirs or mine."
I read that when I was 20, but it didn't fully resonate with me until some years later. It's a crummy deal and I wish we could renegotiate the contract, somehow.
Be grateful your parents are still in the column on the left, as I refer to it. As others have said, nothing prepares us for this. Spend as much time as you can with them. The outing at your place seems like a perfect call.

I lost my dad to congestive heart failure 12 years ago, and mom year before last.
It can really take the steam out of you sails.
I feel for ya. I don’t know how old your dad is, but I suspect he’s lived a rich full life.
Spend the time with him now, talk about the good times, and let him know he’s loved and appreciated.
