Kimber's New Model 84L "Elk Country Classic"
January 19, 2010.

From the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:

Kimber and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are teaming up to launch the new Kimber Model 84L, a rifle that one respected gun writer has already described as “as good as a lightweight rifle can get.”

Christened the “Elk Country Classic,” the first 475 Model 84L rifles are chambered in .30-06 Spfd. and will be available only at RMEF fundraisers beginning early in 2010.

This sleek bolt action sporter weighs just 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and balances like a fine shotgun. Kimber upgraded the stock with specially selected AA-grade French walnut streaked with bold, rich grain. Each stock has hand-cut 20 lines-per-inch checkering, a hand-rubbed oil finish and is tipped in ebony. Special markings include an engraved floorplate with gold accents, engraved bolt handle and serial number that reflects the edition sequence. The rifle is elegant from every angle, but not flashy or overdone.

“Our banquet-goers get first dibs on these rifles, with proceeds conserving habitat for elk and other wildlife,” said Steve Decker, director of field programs for RMEF. “Kimber has never launched a new product through a conservation group before, and we’ve never launched a new rifle, so this is one of the coolest things we’ve ever done at our events.”

A project coordinator at Kimber shared the enthusiasm, saying, “Many of us are dedicated elk hunters and RMEF members. Knowing these rifles will be used to further the RMEF mission means a great deal to all of us. I cannot imagine a stronger partnership.”

To find an RMEF fundraiser—the only place you can get a new Kimber Model 84L Elk Country Classic—near you, go to www.rmef.org and click “Attend an Event.”

Most of the time guns don't trip my trigger to much. A gun is a gun, but I saw that rifle in Bugle and it is a sweet looking rifle. I will definately buy a ticket or whatever at the Banquet this spring.

Not sure what you do with those fancy ones though. I am not gonna retire my old '06 "Mad Max".

Man its heavier than my 1962 Husky :D, and being a Kimber bet it dont shoot as well either:p, I would like to see it after a Tahr hunt dragged thru the matagouri, slid down a shingle scree and bashed against some granite bluffs climbing a 100 metre rock chute:hump::)

Jeff.

Can't wait for these to hit the shelves.
I've absolutely loved every 84m I've ever held, hope these guys are similar.

I'm thinking an 84L in either 270 or 30-06 would cover nearly any base I'd need covered. I imagine the 'banker' will balk at the price tag, but I do have two kidneys...

I saw one at the banquet in Mesa a couple of weeks ago. I quit bidding at $1500. Rifle went for $1850. It shouldered very nicely and felt pretty good. It was sleek and trim with a thinned wasted grip and a comfortable forend. Might look at buying one off the shelf when/if they get there.

The rifle to withstand that kind of abuse would be the OYOA edition, not the RMEF edition. Wonder when they are coming out with the limited OYOA edition? A limited run of four would work for me, unless you guys wanted some.

Thinking they should chamber it in the .257 Weatherby, .270 Win, .7MM Rem Mag, and .300 Win Mag. After that, I really need nothing more for the arsenal to be used personally, or by guest hunters in the show.

Anyone ever try one of the Kimber 84M Montana in a .308? Here is the link

I think this ultra light rifle, in that caliber, would be about as versatile as it gets.

I have shot one, and I really like it. Wonder if they would loan me about 20 of them to use for a season ............. forever ?

I did ask for one to take on the black bear trip to Alaska in May. Will see if they want to "donate one to cause."

The Montana's make the short list of factory rifles I'd be interested in, and I'm a pretty gunny guy.

Nice caliber selection Fin, I could be very happy with that arsenal. Pretty excited to see an 84L Montana one of these days.

Is Kimber an official OYOA sponsor... did I miss a presser somewhere along the way?

No, you didn't miss anything. Just have grown to like their rifles since shooting that .308. And since I have no rifle sponsors (Yet), I am happy to talk about any rifles that I like and seem to be interesting to me.

Hoping to get the one I mentioned, to use in the bear episode, but that is the extent of it at this time.

Due to filming, you can't really shoot out past 200-300 yards anyways right?
A hunting rifle like that would make a lot more sense for your show than a big heavy long range custom.
To me Kimber would be a perfect sponsor for what you're doing.

Or a Sako ;)

Too much Euro trash styling... ;)

A Kimber MT mated with a Leupold scope could be quite the combo.

Fin- Don't know if it matters, but on another board a poster mentions quite often about running into/knowing some Kimber execs in the Kalispell area.

I was thinking the same thing.

I know some of them. Great guys. They are avid hunters, and they are huge supporters of conservation. It is to them that I made the request for the .308 to use in the AK black bear episode.

Good deal. I'm starting to learn that most everyone in MT knows everyone else in MT... ;)

As to rifles, I've been trying to warm my wife up to the idea of Junior "needing" three Kimbers. A 223, a 257 Roberts-308, and either a 30-06 or WSM would have him set up for anything he could hunt on this continent. Beings he's only 3, I keep trying to impress upon her that I need to get them now and make sure they work well.... :D

.

Euro stying yes, i do not like the stock, trash? far from it.

I far preferred the Kimber fit, feel, and looks over the Sako, but looks don't kill. For accuracy, feeding, and reputation of accuracy you can't beat the Sako Finnlight. I just wish they offered that gun in a stock other than the plastic molded thing..

A better stock wouldn't hurt. Still looks like it should be on 'Sprockets'... ;) Never said a Sako was junk, just used trash to help describe the styling. I know I'll be going with a Kimber.
