And don't kill somebody for speaking words you don't agree with.
Unfortunately this has to also apply to people celebrating a death. Free speech covers stupidity as long as it doesn't involve threats of safety.
We can have an opinion of those who do but the government should in no way influence or punish people for free speech.

Where did that happen?

AI scares me more than anything. Already self learning and actually caught falsifying response to protect itself. I can easily imagine AI manipulation to identify "risk" or even "red flag" "opportunities.

Freedom is never without risks. Just look at the UK right now. Eliminate freedom doesn't mean eliminate risks. Both UK and Europe now in significant change. I hope.

I just can't even imagine the crap kids and grandkids are going to face in near future. I pray for them.

The people celebrating his death should be ashamed of themselves. So should those who pass themselves off as "Christians" and are raising him up as if he was a saint. As usual, both extremes are out of touch with reality, morality and plain common decency.
I haven’t seen anyone elevating CK to saint hood. He was a sinner saved by grace. He did stand up for Christ and conservative values and got slaughtered for it.

Where did that happen?
Look I'm not going to argue with you but if that was a genuine question here is one of many examples where the current administration is infringing on the right to free speech.
"There’s free speech and then there’s hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society.
We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech”
Attorney General Pam Bondi said in an episode of ‘The Katie Miller Podcast” published Monday.

As I said I don't condone what stupid people say but in America they have the right to say it peacefully and without threats. Any infringement on their rights is an infringement on everyone's rights.
Also let me say that using this man's death to drum up the divide and tension in this country is intentional, despicable and will cause more violence.

Im no fan of her saying that.

The only kind of speech the first amendment protects is the kinds of speech that people dont like. That includes hate speech.

And im not aware of other attacks on free speech elsewhere. People suffering social consequences for their speech is within the first amendment. Things like - suppressing what an individual can say at all on social media - is an attack on free speech.

If the admin is attacking free speech elsewhere (not social consequences) - i want to know. Silencing me and disarming me are pretty much the same brand of tyranny to me.

Agree .

People often get mad when they suffer consequences for things they say or do, claiming "my rights", but fail to acknowledge the Constitution is only a restriction on the government against the people.

Last night I had a talk with my 7 year old about respect. I explained to him it is earned and if he wants more of it then he needs to earn it. This morning I watched aoc on the news and every 3rd word was a buzz word. Bigot nazi etc…. I think these politicians need to start acting like kids and if you can’t make a comment without posting the finger or using a buzz word keep your mouth shut. Both sides I don’t care their rhetoric isn’t helping anyone at this point. All they have done is won a election they haven’t earned anyone’s respect

Honestly, it everywhere. From collage kids visas being being revoked for not agreeing with the administration on Gaza, to business professionals being threatened with loosing their Gov issued licenses for Celebrating a death, to the president saying broadcast networks shouldn't be able to renew their licenses through the FCC. Our right to free speech is absolutely under attack.

Rep Randy Fine, who took office earlier this year after winning a special election, declared that individuals celebrating Kirk's death must be ousted from "civil society."

"If you are aware of anyone in the 6th District of Florida — or heck, anywhere in the state — who works at any level of government, works for an entity that gets money from government (health care, university), or holds a professional license (lawyer, medical professional, teacher) that is publicly celebrating the violence, please contact my office. I will demand their firing, defunding, and license revocation," Fine said in the post.

i think there is two sides to that coin.

i think in a lot of cases respect is mostly lost. if we don't start with an assumed level of respect for everyone we're already losing this game of life we're all playing.

but there are two flavors of respect, to touch on your point - respect for people as the fellow humans they are and a respect of their character. the former should be assumed and given to everyone, all the time; the latter is largely earned, like you said.

We need more of this - people willing to hold their own team accountable.

But the fact that you hadn't seen the comments points to how much fault in this lies on social media (and even news) algorithms - everyone even slightly left of center has been flooded by posts of every divisive statement republican officials have made because it pisses them off and gets them to like or share, just like everyone even slightly right of center has been flooded by posts of divisive shit on the left. But nobody is getting a fair view of the whole picture; even just googling something feeds you a curated list of stuff that'll confirm your views. I permanently deleted all for-profit social media because I refuse to be complicit in the intentional destruction of civil discourse, and I'm going to use the time I would've wasted doom-scrolling to contact elected officials and push for internet regulation.

I hadnt seen that at 6:00 yesterday, i had just spent the last 2 hours getting ice cream for the little one and working out.

In fact according to YT (16 hours ago) - that podcast dropped (in my usual awesome timing) right after i made my comment.

I follow some right and left sources - and try to insulate myself from the echo chamber. But im seeing plenty of blowback now. Edit: and credit for it.

Thanks for the clarification, because I thought you were being intentionally obtuse yesterday and almost got myself banned with a reply.
