Amtrak conductor tosses kids off train 600 miles from home

TAOS, N.M. - A New Mexico father is outraged after an Amtrak conductor removed his two sons and two of their friends from a train at 2 a.m.

Peter Sharfin of Taos says the three boys and one girl, ages 12 to 15, had been 600 miles from home Saturday when they were forced off the train.

He says the conductor had accused two of the kids of stealing an iPod, called police in Kingman and left the four kids with an officer.

The iPod later was found, and no charges were filed against the kids.

An Amtrak spokeswoman says the conductor removed the kids because of disorderly conduct.

Sharfin says the kids had traveled to Fresno, California, to visit a mother of one of the children.

He says he is considering filing a lawsuit against Amtrak

He released them to a police officer, no problem. As a bus operator, I have thrown unruly children off, always to a police officer. One night I had 15 youngsters removed at one time. Why are these children 600 miles from home without a chaperone. Seems to me the father should be charged with child neglect. Bus drivers, train conductors are not babysitters, or child care providers. We drive the bus, or punch the tickets. If your unruly, we have you removed, man, woman, child, it doesn't matter.

I would agree with Whiskers about dumping them off and the situation involved

Theres gotta be more to the story on the kids side than just sitting on the train minding their own business

But hey, people don't want to be held accountable for their own actions nowadays, letting others take the fall for what these idiots start...

Seems to go on with certain individuals on this board, then when sht starts to hit the fan, they whine and pout and carry on when things don't go their way... :D

Not enough information to make a decision about right or wrong. I doubt that the kids were sitting there quietly memorizing bible verses the whole trip.
