I've read this five times now. Sesquipedalian Tergiversation from Idaho's varsity equivocator.

He tries to talk around that this is:
1. More defund and decry. - He blames all those other states that have no federal land.
2. Pandering to earn his Ag Lobby paycheck. - Does anyone else in the world use terms like, "wildlife mitigation?" Would that there truly were too much wildlife in Idaho.
3. A claim that Federal lands are a threat to Idaho's "Autonomy"

Comment HT - Go!

Someone tell Mr. Fulcher that there are millions and billions of dollars, so many billions coming from tarriffs we won't have to pay income taxes....surely there's enough to pay for the deferred maintenance backlog....especially when Argentina pays us back.
There's that check from Mexico that needs to be cashed too.

What did you do to that fruit?!

And yes, I was serious. This was one part that stood out:

Members of Congress from states without vast levels of federal land don’t want to subsidize us anymore. It’s important to note that, due in part to the large federal footprint in Idaho, more than a third of our state budget comes through federal sources.

My daughter likes drawing disapproving faces in fruit when she has a chance.

That’s like saying states without vast federal highways don’t want to subsidize states with with more traffic and federal highways.

That was the one point I think might be true. I am sick of sending money to a lot of these states. But let’s see the names of those congress members. The rest of the article is nonsense. ID doesn’t generally pay taxes on state owned land, so the PILT is better than nothing. And the grazing lease on state land is $8 per AUM and federal land it’s about $1.5, but talk to fellow Repubs in DC and get it raised. Instead he wants the Godzilla of all handouts.

Russ would be wise to realize Idaho is currently broke with a massive deficit looming and it seemingly only getting worse; but being as how he and hus party caused that it he won’t touch that

I’m happy to subsidize them if it means public lands and public land access. However it’s hard to say anyone has been subsidizing anything when we just keep taking out loans to pay our bills right?

States with more traffic tend to pay a lot more of the balance of federal highways via gas and wheel tax though, right? So it’s basically the opposite scenario to what is being discussed here.

It’s a tough one to dissect. How many nonresidents vs residents pay gas tax. In a lot of states I’d wager we would be shocked. Not something I’ve really thought about until your post.

I'm gonna venture a guess that voting records of Representatives from states with vasts levels of public lands would show they don't want to fund themselves either....but easier to blame others when you're talking tiny fraction of the Federal Budget.
