Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

We'll see in a few more years who they put up. Should be someone more centered. My guess is they'll disconnect even further. Hopefully I'm wrong, but i hate when I'm right.
Maybe I'm a lost cause, but the issues have taken shotgun to personality. I want a leader who acts like a leader first and foremost. Who sets an example to others, warts and all.

If that person has a batshit crazy platform, so be it. If ole Brain Worms had stayed in, he might have gotten my vote simply because I liked his demeanor, even if I think he's out in left field on some topics.

besides, i don't think you can do write ins for the congressional mid terms?
I feel like that's the biggest disconnect in my current thinking. It's a lot easier to beat someone tangential to DT with rational criticism. And I'm not factoring that in correctly.

Eh, nvm i think maybe you technically can for congressional elections. Nonetheless, I don't think it's going to be a factor.

I think independents by their very nature don't have huge attachment to R or D and some not insignificant number of them are starting to view DJT, as the leader of the GOP, as failing them and their country right now.

I could be wrong, but it sure seems like things are pointing that direction. And besides, history says it doesn't matter who is in office right now and how unhinged they may or may not be, their party will statistically net lose the midterms. Add in the unprecedented chaos of this first ~13 months on a domestic and global scale I just don't think it's much of a stretch to say the GOP is particularly #@)(*%* this fall.

Time will tell 🤷‍♂️

I will concede that a few percent of people who voted for this may vote for something else. But the VAST majority of those who voted for him are still overly loyal. We've beaten this dead horse to the point where it's getting hard to recognize it's still a horse, but then your idenitfy is tied to your politics, when you've convinced yourself that one side of the coin is morally just (or at least always morally above the other side), or more simply if your religion is based on an orange prophet, then you can't change. Literally can't.

We see it all over this thread and HT (and society) in general.

It's not like there aren't plenty of people on the other side of that coin with the same conviction.
I think you are confusing base support versus other support. His MAGA base won't change...but he won because lots of people...including surprising numbers of minorities..weren't die hard MAGA zealots but thought he'd make things better financially for them.

Those folks are getting hit hard, Trumo is telling and showing them that the color of their skin means they can be persecuted, and telling them they already have a better economic situation when they know thats a lie. Most will flip if they haven't already.

That type of logic has been fundamentally flawed for at least the last 12 years. People believe his lies, if for no other reason than you can't tell truth from a lie anymore. And each year it gets harder. Each year, the lies are bigger, bolder, and more demanding, and harder to refute.

You're conflating his base with moderate republicans and independents. Independents decide elections and an ever increasing percentage of which I think are becoming disgusted by this administration. Most of the independents don't need such egregious behavior to be turned off anyway.

His base can't decide an election, period. Republicans make up like 27-30% of the electorate and it's even a subset of that which would be considered his kool aid drinking, knee pad totin' base that wouldn't change their mind if Trump shot their mother in front of their own two eyes.

I think it's gonna be a republican blood bath this fall.
While I would like to think so, I have no confidence that the elections will be free and fair or even happen at all.

I guess one of the ways I organize it in my head is that the R party has some good ideas, but their candidate is a bad leader and worse human.

Vs, the D party is wholly disconnected from reality. But just about any individual, even with their flaws, doesn't seem like a terrible choice.
There is hope on the way buddy!!!

Implementation can be done by the states with a few key rules followed. I suggest that most people will be better off with proof of citizenship in a ID form like a RealID. You never know when you might need to fly somewhere.
Just be aware that only 5 states (MN, ironically, is one of them) issue RealID’s that indicate citizenship. In the remaining states, you can possess a RealID and not be a citizen. It only confirms that you are legally in the US. And that doesn’t mean you can vote.

So back to my previous point, the way the language in the SAVE Act is written, a RealID would only suffice for proof of citizenship in those 5 states. In all of the others, you will be required to produce a passport or birth certificate if the SAVE Act passes as currently written. I’m sure @Handlebar wasn’t trying to prove my point with his post, but the bolded part would preclude RealID as proof of citizenship in most states.
following:
“(1) A form of identification issued consistent with the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005 that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the United States.

if you were right we'd be past trumps second term already. because nobody would've changed their mind right?

folks absolutely change their minds

How does a Republican lose by 14 points in a safe conservative Texas state Senate seat that President Donald Trump carried by 17 points in 2024?

canary in the coal mine, if you will.
It’s like a basic law of politics that the party of the sitting President gets hammered in the mid-terms, losing control of at least one house. This one could be especially bad considering the recent off cycle and special elections.

The upside is balance of power can be a good thing. A moderating force if you will. Which is why the political situation in Colorado is so absolutely disgusting.

True, and that’s not what I’m getting at. This administration is the first to tie your entire identity into a single dossier- facial scans, biometric data, SSN, voter information, medical information, NFA info, everything the government has about you into a single place. And send it to outside private contractors. First, that is a security risk of epic proportions. Second, that opens the door to a lot of surreptitious surveillance without the public’s knowledge nor consent.
And the first to hand it all over to a private company with both political and commercial (conflicts of?) interest in exploiting it. Do a little digging on Palantir. If it doesn’t scare you, it should. I’ve spent much of my career working under stringent regulations on how personal data is used by our govt. This admin has dropped an A-bomb into all of of that.

I think it’s all of those in the middle who don’t vote straight line party ballots who are disgusted. Disgusted with our choices.
Not too many then, from what I can see. If I were a conspiracy theorist (just kidding I totally am) I would've thought the democrats were working with trump the way they helped him win the last one.

When you vote a MAGAlomaniac into office, this is what happens. Power and $$$ take the lead. When you’re so out of touch with the average citizen, giving away data means absolutely nothing.

You say you had no motive but that you were also trying to make a point, what point is that? I referenced the previous two Presidents to show how biased the media, and lots of folks, are towards Trump. It seems like a lot of the people who shat on the previous two POTUS, are completely Okay with worse crap when it comes to DJT.

Everyone should be held to the same standard and the amount of apologist for Trump is beyond ridiculous. The allegations against him are serious and should be beyond party line. I've shunned people out of my life for less and the fact that some are still defending DJT, is astounding.
Happy to know that American politicians provide you a mechanism to vent your pent up frustrations !! 😂
