I'm generally not a Schumer booster, however, I agree with him that it will "disenfranchise millions of American" which is deeply concerning to me. As previously discussed in this thread, logistical hurdles could prevent many current legal voters from voting in November.

Excluding privacy concerns, I think I could support the SAVE Act with two modifications. First, if implementation was pushed to 2028, giving people and states time to process needed documentation. And secondly, if the Federal government covered costs for document requests and processing. Would you support those amendments?

I really think we need to be careful to not brush off things just because it isn't going to impact the majority of us on this forum, being white middle class dudes.

Biden is no longer President, but if any significant and believable allegations or clear evidence of either were to have surfaced during his Presidency or now, I'd be having the same stance. The office of POTUS comes with significant responsibilities as well as strict scrutiny. DJT has turned his Office, administration and country, into a joke on the world stage, and I am not mincing my words.

I think the American media and people have been extremely selective of their outrage, depending on who sits in the white house. Fox News et al., would be having all day "SUPER DOOPER IMPORTANT NEWS ALERT" if Biden and Obama did any of what Trump is accused of. Why do I know that? Because they did it for far less...

Biden has been part of some very questionable legislations as a Senator, but I also question a lot of policies and legislations that are supported by a majority of Americans so... 🤷‍♀️

It's racist to suggest only white people can get a Real ID or ID in general. Fwiw, "middle" class includes all levels of education. There is overlap across races. All middle class members aren't equally capable. The CNN polls suggest all races want Voter ID. Uneducated poor people of all races might need help, but it isn't impossible.

I think the biggest detriment are govt rules and that includes state rules. It's silly to produce several documents to get a RealID. That's the states that made it convoluted. Birth Certificate and electric bill or similar to say where you live should be enough with exceptions.

Implementation can be done by the states with a few key rules followed. I suggest that most people will be better off with proof of citizenship in a ID form like a RealID. You never know when you might need to fly somewhere.

I don't think waiting is necessary. People have had years to get a RealID and yet some still haven't.

Not enough. Move voting from a Tuesday to a Saturday or Sunday and make voter registration mandatory. Add those things, heck just one of them, and you will quickly see the true motivations.

Ask Trump! He ordered republicans to kill a bi partisan bill that would have helped. It even would have given the president more legal authority to manage requests for asylum!

Dems deserve blame to, but once Trump started blowing up immigration into a much bigger problem than it is and noted wide acceptance of lies regarding it...the very last thing they wanted to do is fix/improve immigration!

I do expect republicans to get trounced next fall and that might change more republicans minds.
