Last year I think unit 82 only had a 10 day deer season but talking with the Bio they are thinking of going to a 15 day season this year . Hopeing for this to happen ,I would like to hunt the last week to avoid the crowds of hunters.Maybe could pick up a couple doe antelope tags also.
I was in the area elk hunting last fall,I really did not thik it was very crowded to me.Only saw 2-4 other hunters per day.

Last year you are right in that the season was 10/1-10/10. This year the tentative plan now showing on the G&F website shows 10/1-10/12, so I don't know if just 2 extra days will help you or not.

May pickup a leftover cow tag for one of the units close to Region W .Will be watching when they come available.

So if they are extending it, is is due to the lack of game?

I am still resisting the temptation to pick up this tag with my 1 measly WY deer point. We saw a pair of bruisers in 82 last year on our way back from my antelope hunt in 87 - but we also saw approximately a million archery hunters. I do love that country...

No, not due to lack of game.

I talked with the Biologist for the area last Friday. The herd objective is about 19,600 deer and their estimates are 23K or so.

They have also had good fawn recruitment the last couple years and buck to doe ratio's are pretty good as well, so they are extending the season a couple days. IMO, Wyoming does a good job of both expanding opportunity when it exists, and also restricting opportunity when numbers are just not doing well.

I don't think extending the season a couple days will be a big deal either way. Its not like the extra 2 days extend into the rut or anything and really after the first few days, most people have either killed a deer, are back to work, or have tossed in the towel.

In general terms, statewide, the last 2 years have been really good for antelope and deer...elk are also continuing to do very well.

Too early to know for sure, but if this trend continues for another few years, we're going to be in really good shape. With that I would expect more opportunity.

What Buzz said.
The deer herd looked good to me last fall when I was there elk hunting.
