I always wanted to go to Alaska and hunt caribou. I spent 32 years dreaming, 4 years actually planning and saving and then I went 2 years in a row. I saw several thousand caribou in the 2 weeks I spent in Alaska but harvested nothing (I am very picky). The experience was grand yet I am left wanting.
Question is: The clock is ticking, have you tried to live your dream?
Or do you think you may now be too old,
or did yours not live up to your hype,
or was yours just as fantastic as you thought,
or something else....?

Nickster, That question could be Posed in Every Aspect of Life I would say.

As far as Kids, I have the Best kids and Wouldn't worry that they knew How much I loved them because I tell them Every day and Show it in my Actions.
As far as Money, I'm Doing OK on a Monthly basis, and Have made sure if I die not only would my wife be taken care of but my kids and Probably their kids. (Ya, That life insurance guy like me ;) )
As far As Friends, I have left work on Pleanty of occasions to Change a tire or bring a car part to and have left many a times late at night to bail someone out of a Jam and have had Friends return the favor. So the friend aspect is covered.

But to Cover your Specific Question,

As far As Hunts, I can Honestly Say I've done Pleanty of good hunts and If I died today I would have Died a Hunting Fullfilled man. (If I die years down the Road I would have Filled my basket and others ;) )

You can Ask anyone that has Hunted with me and We ALWAYS have a Fullfilled hunt. I think a Hunt iswhat you make of it. If you save for years and Years and go on a hunt and don't get nothing, You can look at it 2 ways I guess... Reality is though, If you don't save and go on a Backyard hunt you can look at it the same 2 ways. Either you made it a great time or ya didn't.

I don't think there is any such thing as one dream hunt. Hunting is about the journey, not the destination. So you go on an awesome hunt. If you're ate up with this sport as much as me and many others on this forum, there is always another hunt to plan. The planning is part of the fun too. I get a little depressed if I don't always have a future hunt or two on the horizon, booked, or in the works.
I will also ad this. If you are wanting to do something like a big hunt, get off your rear and get it booked. You'll find a way to pay for it. Life is short, and any one uf us could get hit by a truck tomorrow.

I'm kinda leaning towards going to the Yukon for a multi species hunt in the not too distant future. Seems to me, that is about as remote and as far from civilization as you can get on this continent, and that's what interests me presently. The polar bear thing sounds pretty awesome too. Might have to do that soon, before you can't do it legally any more.

At one time a hunt in Africa was my dream. After reading more and deciding what was more realistic the dream changed. Hopefully it will not be a dream but juts a hunt out west with a couple or even one fellow members of HuntTalk would suffice. Heck I would be estatic going west and getting a cow elk or a doe antelope or not even anything. Just being there would count as a great hunt for me.

The Texas Hunt we had here 4 years ago was great. The Hillbilly Huntfest with dgibson,Flipper and Meathead are cherished memories.

You're right about the Yukon Steiny. About 30,000 people living in an area the size of Montana and Wyoming combined. And close to 20,000 live in one city, Whitehorse. From my one time experience up there, game is very plentyful and the land is beautiful beyond discription. The wife is on board to make a trip up there next summer to look it over and see what real estate is like up there. That would be my dream....give it a go up there before we're too old to make it work.

Dream Hunts are like the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow. I see too many people betting their all on these trips and putting too much pressure on themselves to where after they are done, they wonder "was that all there is?" Hunting should not be about that. I am taking a Young Man (Boy of 10) to a Hunter Safety Course next month, then he will join us and my son for a weekend at the deer camp. If he kills a deer (doe, spike, monster) would'nt that qualify as a Dream Hunt? John

Well said John.

Hunting is about whatever you want it to be about.
I see taking that ten year old hunting as a wonderful gesture, and a great thing to do, but sorry guys .... that aint no dream hunt for this kid. I can do that any time, every season.

How about ..... a couple Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders as your personal guide, packer and all around camp beyotches. Now that's a dream hunt. Matter of fact, I dreamed that last night.
