Morning all,

Bodnar got over a third of the votes! People want something different. My wife and I feel stuck. We’re hard core for two issues; pro 2A and Public Lands.

My wife was hot yesterday and I think she has a point. Public land is an 80/20 issue like boys in girls sports. The boys in girls sports act passed in Washington of all places. Thank God, but we will see if it holds. We’ve seen it when dealing with the Mike Lee. MAGA hats and purple hair aligned. We also believe most hunters find themselves sitting in the pro 2A camp. I hope so anyway. Do people that shit believe in toilet paper?

There are approximately 15,000,000 hunters in our country. In the last presidential election there were just 77,000,000 votes! Analyze those numbers. That’s about a 1/5.

There’s a fed up group of passionate people that are looking for leadership. If someone and a party would simply align behind those two issues we believe hunters would flock to that party. Thoughts? Seth?

Well there are like 80M+ gun owners in America, which is way more than the number of hunters. The NRA wasn't able to really get those all to vote . . . ever. Back during Obama and gun gun control days of politics my grandpa and dad used to loudly proclaim "if we could get everyone in this country that owns a gun to vote (Republican), we would run this country." While technically true, I think it's totally unrealistic.

Not raining on your parade, but just being realistic, no way you get near 100% or even probably not even near 80% of hunters to vote. Most I think you could hope for would be 50% and even that is probably a stretch?

Also, something to think of, how many of those 15M hunters care about public lands? Maybe half or less? There are A LOT of private land only hunters east of the Mississippi that are perfectly fine with "their" public lands being privatized for data centers, housing, solar etc. because to them they will never step foot on them as they have their own or family's 40-500 acre farm to hunt deer on.

Hunt Talk is an echo chamber to a degree, the majority of our nation is not like us. Add in deeply convicted and personal issues like abortion and it really muddies the water. Most folks that truly care about the issue (pro choice or pro life) will prioritize abortion rights/limitations over 2A and especially public lands.

Only 1% of hunters are even members of conservation organizations. Most of them dgaf.

"if we could get everyone in this country that owns a gun to vote (Republican), we would run this country."
I’m sure a lot of the people who voted in this past election were gun owners and/or hunters. A significant chunk of them did not vote Republican. Owning a gun (or twelve) does not equate to 2A being your top priority when it comes to choosing elected officials. Not everyone buys the “they’re coming for your guns” rhetoric.

I have a different impression. They voted for a D (just look at his messages to the student body at UM) with an I next to his name. It was a miscalculation to run that way.

I think you are fine though. Alme and other Rs in Montana haven't expressed support to sell public land and aren't for pulling 2A back. Ds have to push public land sales federally, so unless you think they will. You are also ok. They could push anti-2A but Trump will veto, so you are still ok.

Unfortunately, I think this is point on.
If I put a pro-public lands or conservation issue on my personal FB feed, with AT LEAST 50% of my friends hunters or hunter friendly, I might get a handful of reactions and hardly ever an actual response.
My most recent big buck grip and grin- 203 reacts and 70 comments, so I’m not completely wiped from their algorithm

Didn't follow Seth, just looked at his website on the issues. I'm not 100% aligned but theres a whole lot of good. Wow. If we could get uniparty BS to be gone with and have a bunch of people run on that platform that would be something.

Valiant effort. I'm curious what issues the GOP had that were preferable?

So approximately 124 million people voted in this election. I would venture a guess that the public land issue and 2A were not on the minds of the majority of those voters.
The 15 million hunters account for about 4.5% of the entire population of the U.S.
So if even 50% of those voted, which i doubt, that is only about 2.3% of the population. Not enough to make a difference.
No party in their right mind would make those 2 issues a major objective for only 2.3% of the population.
