Pronghorn

It sounds like Ryan Devore should be made aware of the opinions of some montana hunters and should be given an opportunity to explain the rationale behind the quota updates.

I'm a graph/visual type of human, this exercise helped me see it over time.

Correct me if my numbers are wrong below. But as I see it going back to 2020:

R7 Either-Sex Tags

2020 - 6000
2021 - 8500
2022 - 7500
2023 - 7500
2024 - 7500
2025 - 10000
2026 - 12000

R7 Doe Tags

2020 - 1500
2021 - 150
2022 - 150
2023 - 150
2024 - 810
2025 - 1500
2026 - 4000 (plus 1500 705 Only) so 5500 doe tags????????

So since 2020 (7500 total rifle tags) to 2026 (17,500) it's gone up by nearly 10,000 rifle tags? I know they've offered an option to purchase additional doe tags if you drew but I don't see that on their draw stats.

Is my math correct?

I think the 900 tags have stayed at 5,600 yearly quota. So has the antelope population gone up by 220%? Or am I looking at this wrong and messing up my math? I mean, &%*^&*

Honestly for me I’d be more interested in game taken than tags issued. They could issue 30k tags….please don’t but if your still only taking 1500 antelope 🤷‍♂️

MTFWP wants to cash in on that modern era bumper crop of pronghorn before a possible wet El Niño winter takes them for free.

I wouldn’t think at a certain level of tags you would see harvest rates go down. I just don’t think we need to do it for everything.

The way people hunt antelope I bet it would. Are you really hunting if one hand isn’t on the steering wheel?

Looking at the harvest estimates (cus that's exactly what they are, just a best guess) for R7:

2020 - 6523
2021 - 4036
2022 - 4678
2023 - 4926
2024 - 4650
2025 - 5629

So compared to tags issued, success rates are

2020 - 87% (seems wrong...)
2021 - 47%
2022 - 61%
2023 - 64%
2024 - 56%
2025 - 49%

Probably a strong correlation between weather opening weekend and success rates:ROFLMAO:

Glancing through data on FWP's website, they gave out 11,000 either sex tags in 2010 with 2,000 doe tags, and harvest totals show 5,809. So a 45% success rate.

So with this years tags, we're probably going to see, what, 7,500 (45%) to 11,000 (60%) antelope harvested? Seems asinine.
