*I add, that on my walk back to the truck in disgust at the situation unfolding on opening day that I bumped into a buck at pretty close range completely frozen in terror with the cacophony of wanton rifle fire going on around us. I could not bring myself to shoot it under those circumstances. I jest with the gif above, but the whole experience made me consider quitting hunting altogether. The unit we drew is generally a more pleasant experience (my wife had the tag a few years back), but I'm still skeptical of heading out on opening day.
That’s antelope hunting. Still yet to hear from anybody that I know that didn’t draw.
I don’t really care antelope don’t do it for me but the general trend where we beat the animals into the dirt does concern me.
There isn’t many more antelope on the landscape than 3 to 4 years ago and we will never see pre 2011-2012 levels. The long term average had already been wiped off the map at MTFWP for those levels.

Was trying not to draw due to a new baby, so I put in for lower odds tags closer to home. Worked for buck but I drew the doe tag in the new(old) HD south of Great Falls. The hoot BMA's are within 15 minutes of my parents house, so I should be able to get out there a bit, but certainly doesn't help with the goodwill I was trying to bank for deer camps.

Congrats on the kiddo! Law of the odds is that you'll absolutely draw a tag with a new kid, especially on a low-odds tag you didn't expect to draw. I drew a terrific deer tag last season when our kiddo was 1. Fortunately it was close enough to home that I could burn some petrol hunting on day trips and still be home in time for a bedtime book.

Of all the low-odds tags, a pronghorn doe close to the parents house is about as lucky as I can get. Don't need to be out a first light or last light, don't need to hold out for a big one, just a fun chance to get some extra meat.

Three tags here. An A tag for me and an A and B tag for my son. Looking forward to October!

Time to take the baby out with you. My parents took me out at 2 months old. Side affects may be a hunting and gun addiction as they grow older.
I had to pick a unit more than 3 hours away from Billings, too many people. I probably had 15 shots go past me last year when I was trying to fill my doe tag. People were shooting at the antelope on the other side of me. The guys were shooting from the road a half mile behind me....
That’s unfortunate. Certain places seem to attract all the bad actors in those units.

Geez, I was thinking about applying next year. Might have to invest in a flak jacket from the sounds of it.
