Pronghorn

Tags for everyone!! Antelope for few. I would recommend that people train for running shots.

Last time I had a tag was in a pretty popular unit not far from Helena. Folks were just using semi-automatic guns with reckless abandon.* No need for training.

*I add, that on my walk back to the truck in disgust at the situation unfolding on opening day that I bumped into a buck at pretty close range completely frozen in terror with the cacophony of wanton rifle fire going on around us. I could not bring myself to shoot it under those circumstances. I jest with the gif above, but the whole experience made me consider quitting hunting altogether. The unit we drew is generally a more pleasant experience (my wife had the tag a few years back), but I'm still skeptical of heading out on opening day.

That’s antelope hunting. Still yet to hear from anybody that I know that didn’t draw.

My buddy Steve did not. But he’s already had eyes on a pile of bulls and is elk crazy anyway, so I think he’s ok with it. I can introduce ya’ll so you can say you know someone who didn’t draw. ;)

I don’t really care antelope don’t do it for me but the general trend where we beat the animals into the dirt does concern me.

There isn’t many more antelope on the landscape than 3 to 4 years ago and we will never see pre 2011-2012 levels. The long term average had already been wiped off the map at MTFWP for those levels.
