Pronghorn Preference Point

So I got lucky and drew an awesome pronghorn tag this year. Now I'm already planning for the future and that got me thinking about points.

Am I able to purchase a point for next year's draw even though I drew a 1st choice tag this year?

I dont think it works this way but I'd sure like to have 1 point for next year's draw instead of a big zero...

Im not sure on WY, but I know in MT they are awarded prior to the drawing...which would be gone if you were successful:

"Applicants may purchase only one preference point per license year. Preference points purchased at the time of application are awarded prior to the drawing."

Not if that awesome tag you drew this year was your first choice. Wouldn't it be great if we all could buy a point even though we drew a good tag so that we would never have to start next year with a "big zero" ….smh...

No you can't buy a point this year to use next year, nor can you buy a point next year before the draw. This is assuming your 2018 tag was your first choice. Enjoy the tag and trip and then someone else gets to have it next year while you go to zero points for a year. That's the breaks.

That's what I figured! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing the boat as Wyoming gives you a large window of time to purchase points for next season after the draw is over

Possible solution is to get doe antelope or deer tags the years you probably wont' draw a buck antelope tag. Hunt the same place for a few years and you will really learn how to hunt the area.

That's what I've done up to this point. This is my first time drawing a first choice buck tag and why I wasn't sure about the inability to purchase my point

I guess I was thinking about the drawing being the end of this draw cycle and July 2nd starting next years

The PP you paid for won't be good until the draw next year. If you drew your first choice, then they will refund your money on your credit card. If you didn't draw your first choice, then that point will be put into your account for use next year if you apply. You have to buy a point at least every other year or you lose them all. It's explained right in the online application booklet!

As stated above- you will get a refund for the PP you applied for this year since you drew your first choice.
