Preparing for Spring bear hunt

Bears are my favorite animal to hunt, and this time of year is so long. What tools do you use to help you scout in the off season? I have been using this web site to help me look at the snow line.

I also use google earth to look at terrain and roads or lack of. What tools do you use to help you this time of year?

Google Earth, FS and BLM maps for me. After finding a specific type of hillside last year that more than often would have bears on it, I`ve been going through and finding more hillsides that fit this criteria, and then pull out FS and BLM maps to figure out access. I`ve got them sorted in to spots I can check out after work, and spots that I`ll need all day to check out.
I`ve also got them sorted out by elevation, and can hopefully hit them up in order of the receding snow pack, catching the freshest grass as I go.

Thanks for the link. I have always reserved spring for motorcycle riding but since I sold my bike bear hunting is now at the top of my list.

Ive never focused pn bear hunting, usually too busy looking for shed antlers. Now there are so many dirtbags (see tinesup.com) out looking for sheds ive all but lost my interest in that. Bear hunting sounds like alot of fun. The bear in you pic looks like a good one, is that a general or limited entry unit bear?

That bear was taken by my friends wife in a general unit. That was her biggest bear, but she shot one two years later that was almost as big and according to F&G 12 years older.
