Has anyone here used one of these portable electric coolers that are supposed to either freeze or refrigerate? I'm shopping for one about average 48 quart cooler size for keeping walleye fillets frozen during extended fishing trips to the Maumee River. Since retirement my weekend trips will probably extend to one week at a time. I guess they can plug in to either an auto cigarette lighter or regular wall plug. I read several reviews that state these typically don't last very many years. I would use mine either at our motel or campsite w/electric. Thanks.

I used an ICECO VL60 dual zone fridge/freezer for two years now, not cheap but seemed to be better quality one when I was in the market. Used it for a 7 week trip out west last year, worked flawlessly.

Maumee River! I saw it dark with walleye spawning when I was in college.

You went to college nearby there? I used to drive over the bridge en route to Port Clinton charter boats and see the guys wading for 50 years before finally getting a friend to drag me in the river 6 years ago. Now I'm addicted. I live 2 hours West of there. Easy drive straight down I-80 toll road. Got my first SS check this week retired and plan to stay there longer than the 3 day weekends I have been doing. Thus the portable freezer. I just picked one out on Amazon and ordered today. Should be enough space for a full week of limits.IMG_5486.jpegIMG_2464.jpeg

I went to BGSU. I’d drive over one of the bridges to see the mass of fish.

Alternative to a freezer is dry ice in a cooler. Replace the dry ice as it evaporates.

Just bought a Rocky 41 from Bouge RV. Plugged in in house to see how quick it got down to temperature. It was quick. I like the removable divider so it can be freezer and fridge or one or the other.

After building my power station this gives me something to power with it!

I think I’m going to put an Anderson connection rather than the cig lighter 12 v to avoid low current errors and have more positive connections.

Isn’t your possession limit only 12?
I'll definitely need to check and confirm that with a CO. In the past I just made sure there weren't more than 6 in my box. The comment on 4 is likely just old. It used to be 4 a decade ago. This year I am taking a friend so when we both limit there will be 12 in the box. So I need to make sure in case I go for lunch alone or something with more than 6 in there.

Are we allowed to post products on here? Yours is way better quality than the one I ordered, but I bought a 3 year warranty based on the reviews I read. If it's disposable that's OK, as I will have gotten my money's worth out of it. Mine also has 2 zones split by a vinyl cutting board setup. I plan to keep our live eyes on ice as usual, and only fill this cooler with the fillets as we cut those each day.

Mine is the retired senior on SS model............

This freezer box will also come in handy during my subsequent turkey hunting season, as I typically have 3 IL + 1 IN = 4 tags. Each hunt is farther South in IL so I can put one or two birds in there and drive to the next hunt location, keep hunting. If this thing works out, it will be a game changer for me in retirement hunting/fishing travels. I will be away from home with walleye/turkey 6 weeks, and fall hunting 2-3 months each year. So 3.5-4.5 months/year. It will actually turn out to be a big positive to have married a Chinese lady. She can spend these seasons at our Sichuan home if she wants. And I can hunt & fish all I want without criticism. We discussed all this before we got married, and we are both in agreement it works.
