Permit Bill up tomorrow - Heads UP

I won't be able to make it on Zoom, but I wrote in testimony as well. @Schaaf, I did talk to RMEF headquarters, and as Ben said, they currently don't have a government relations specialist and as such have not taken a stance on any bill.
Thanks for the info.

MT BHA was rightfully dragged through the mud for their wrong stance on the muzzleloader bill while their one paid employee was out on paternity leave.

RMEF can’t find the courage among their dozens of employees to oppose arguably the worst elk bill I’ve ever seen.

I love RMEF but GMAFB.

My thoughts exactly. I've been typing and deleting a bunch of F bombs as I tried to figure out what to say about this.

Thanks for all the helpful information on these bills guys, appreciate it. The more I learn about this process and how politicians act based on lobbyist the more by blood pressure goes up....not good!

Looks like the hearing before the House FWP committee was canceled. Maybe they were hearing from some hunters?

From someone in the legislature.

“ It wasnt pulled, it is that we arw behind on Executive Action so the hearing will be re-scheduled.
We had a terrible bill about conservation easements yesterday that took up the entire available time (and then some). Fortunately it was all oppposition testimony from around the state.
I bet we hear this bill on Tuesday but dont take my word for it. ”

Unfortunately it’s not dead as we’d hoped.

Sent in my comments. As a non resident I don't know how much sway they have, but I'm stressing the native MT part, also that I have family there, and that this is inviting a total destruction of science based wildlife management.

Seems like this would set precedent to sponsor a bill allowing wolf poisoning and grizzer bar hunts. The sleazy trophy hunter in me wonders if this can be turned to an advantage?

I'm not seeing much talk on social media, etc about this bill i thought I might. What gives? Did everyone expend all their energy on SB 143?

A lot of energy was, and is, being spent on SB 143.

For this one, most are waiting for more details on the bill process. Lots of pressure to pull this before it gets uglier than things already are. Hopefully that can happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Does anybody know how this vote went?

The hearing was canceled, and should be rescheduled by tomorrow for either Tuesday or Thursday.

As soon as it's listed, folks need to sign up to testify. We need to be sure to pack the hearing with opposition in anyway possible.

If you feel safe driving to Helena to testify in person, please consider doing so in a responsible fashion.

If you want to testify online, and want some help with talking points, etc, please feel free to IM me and I'll help as I can.

Remember - keep it short & to the point. Don't repeat testimony, be polite & courteous & wear a decent shirt. Business casual is fine. No need for a tie if you're a citizen testifying, but no hoodies/t-shirts or hats.

I won't be able to get time off on such short notice unfortunately, maybe the emails I sent will
actually get read and be taken into consideration.

You can still testify from the comfort of your home, car or anywhere you can get a signal to run a zoom call. That's still a viable option for folks. But yeah, 3 PM on a tuesday is almost like they don't want actual humans to show up and voice their opinion.
