People Crapping on their past.

I don't think dogs should be chained up 24/7 either, so I can't really disagree with these country singers in this particular instance. I just have to wonder if they really know what PETA is all about. Or if PETA is deceiving them like they try to do with everybody else. What's really odd is I always thought PETA was against people owning any type of pet for any reason. Hmm...maybe that is the HSUS I'm thinking of (Humane Society of the United States.) Oh well, they're both bad, and I sure hope these country singers aren't also supporting the anti-hunting agenda.

I hate PETA! But I also think that any dog on a chain 24/7 should be shot and put out of it's misery.

dogs are property.
if they are on a chain 24/7 thats none of anyone's business but the owner of that property.

I agree with you in principle, JB - but cannot go along with cruelty. Not that long ago, wives were property, too. Some places in the world, it is still that way. Slaves were once property....

In any case, animals can be property, but I cannot support unneeded cruelty. I may smash flies, but I don't pull their wings off...at least not lately.

ahhhh, the good old days.

cali, do you think a dog on a chain falls under animal cruelty?.i dont.

Why have a dog if you're going to chain the thing up 24/7?

I think chaining a dog a majority of its life is pretty darn cruel. It tells me the owner is lazy and ignorant, and shouldnt have the right to own a pet.

But this is America, and where does anyone get off coming onto my property an telling me how to treat my dog. Personally I don't chain dogs, I have a fence. But as much as I dislike it, it's my neighbors dog and he can do with it what he wants. The problem with this country is too many people having too much to say about the way someone else lives. If they don't like something they pass a law saying you cannot do, have or enjoy something.

next you'll be pissing and whinning about people who have fish tanks.

if your dad loved you the least bit he would of drown you when you were a pup........ :D

JB - LMAO!

Just chaining the dog up 24/7 may not be cruel so long as it has shelter, sufficient food and water, etc. It's be "nice" if it got off the chain a little, once in a while, but that does not concern me.

Property rights are one thing - but just because the dog is your property does not, in my opinion, give you the right to slowly carve chunks off of it with a saw blade, burn it with a propane torch or slowly starve it to death. If you want to kill it, fine - kill it. Don't torture it. That is why we have animal cruelty laws.

Just when I thought I couldn't have a lower opinion of JB, he comes thru and shows even less character.

I'm a little surprised about Dolly. I recall on some show a few years back that she said that she made a purpose of not making political statements....that she did not want to offend any of her fans. Must have been a lesson learned from the Dixie Bimbo's.

Getting in bed with PETA must mean she has changed her mind. Too bad. She should just stick to singing.

As with the 99% of entertainers that want to jump into the political ring...

Just when I thought I couldn't have a lower opinion of JB, he comes thru and shows even less character.

Snicker... snicker... As if he really cared about your opinion of him or any thing else for that matter I'm betting.... :p :D

My dogs are used to running free...they love it and their life,,, they are well behaved and listen.... they are part of our family....I could not imagine chaining them up 24/7.... its cruel in my opinion... but i agree its not my biz what others do... But whats the point if you don`t love them and engage them?...Yes we have 5 acres but a yard is almost as good.....Look at MT. Miller and how much fun/love he has with his dog. I think that being chained up 24/7 isn`t much of a life for "any" animal that was born to run.

I don't know about 24/7 being cruel. I have 4 dogs I use for hunting cats, kept in a 40'x60' area with a 5' fence. They all have their house, water, and yes a chain. Except for the female she has her own kennel (to keep control of unwanted breeding). Everyone of those dogs knows where it's own place is and knows that when they are there they are safe. If these dogs get out of the yard they would more than likely get run over, or harrass every housecat in town, and probably put the lights out of a few of them. These dogs are my livestock (no not lap dogs), and I will board them how I see fit. I've had people call the police on me in the winter to make me bring my dogs in the house when it's cold. I'd explain the situation, show the arrangements and told him I'd bring my dogs in the house right after they brought their horses and cattle in. He laughed, agreed with me, and went on with his business.

Before anyone makes general judgements and statements think about the situation first. We as sportsmen and women are usually the first to get our feathers ruffled when told what to do by people who don't live or even like our particular chosen lifestyles.

Next thing you know this will turn into a free range over farmed chicken debate.

Yes they are exercised. But general comments have to be watched carefully. Some communities are trying to ban chaining dogs, maybe even achieving it. Do we want to ban guns, just 'cause some idiots abuse them? Just have to be careful folks.

Welcome to Moosie's, WFGinNM. As I said above, I don't think being chained up is, in itself, cruel. It's the lack of shelter, water and enough food (calories) to burn that become cruel. And that may be hard to determine by looking at a dog - a bird dog like the shorthairs I used to run or hunting hounds may look famished to an outsider when in fact, they are just in hunting shape!

Bill, I agree and I sure don't think we need any laws against having an animal on a chain! Confining a dog in a small kennel is the same thing, and lots of hunting dogs are kept in kennels. The "cruelty" part only comes in when a dog is completly ignored and never exercised. But again, the last thing we need is more laws telling us what to do and how to do it. |oo
